Teddy Bridgewater is back.
After winning a state championship as a high school football coach this fall, Bridgewater announced last week that he planned to unretire and return to the NFL.
Bridgewater is now expected to sign with the Detroit Lions, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Lions are a familiar team for Bridgewater as he spent the 2023 season with the Lions as a backup behind Jared Goff.
Detroit coach Dan Campbell confirmed the signing during his Thursday press conference.
“My team knows that’s the plan,” Bridgewater said during an interview with The Insiders last week. “We wanted to win a state championship and then coach goes back to the league, see what happens, and then come back February in the offseason, continue coaching high school football. We’ll see how it plays out.”

Bridgewater, 32, coached his alma mater, Miami Northwestern, to a state title this fall. He will now go on a playoff run in Detroit before returning to coaching high school football in 2025.
Bridgewater played for the Denver Broncos in 2021, going 7-7 as a starter. He has scored 86 touchdowns in the NFL, spending time with seven teams.
