Former Brazil international Edmundo has cited the Tyneside weather as the reason why Neymar would reject Newcastle United. Magpies cult hero Joelinton jokingly suggested his compatriot could join himself and Bruno Guimaraes at St James’ Park on the Cast FC podcast.
Toon chiefs have preferred a level-headed approach in the transfer market since buying the club last October. Superstar signings have not arrived so far, with Newcastle adopting a “steady-build” strategy to stay within Financial Fair Play regulations.
An unlikely proposal to sign PSG sensation Neymar would obliterate the blueprint United have followed so far. Earning a staggering £600,000-a-week, the 30-year-old is one of the highest earners in world football.

Dubious reports have attempted to attach Neymar’s name to Newcastle post-takeover but even the most optimistic Toon supporter knows this is a pipe dream - for now. However, that has not stopped retired Brazil international Edmundo from having a swipe at the North East climate.
Speaking to Esporte, the 51-year-old - who earned 39 Brazil caps - insists Neymar would be unhappy if he ever joined Newcastle. “Now, I’ve been to Newcastle; it’s a small, cold town,” Edmundo said.
“If he has difficulty adapting in Paris, he would not be satisfied in Newcastle. If they pay him what he earns, he goes. But he needs to be focused and concentrated, even because it’s a World Cup year. If he has an equal performance in the last two Cups, will the next coach see him as a pillar for the future?”
