Ex-Asda worker details strangest customer returns - and 'worst' type of shoppers

Being able to return clothes, homeware and food when you realise you don't want it is a bit of a godsend.

Imagine having to keep all those random purchases you regret... that wouldn't be ideal.

But it seems some people try and take their returns too far, as a former Asda worker has revealed.

Speaking to The Sun, the former supermarket employee shared some of the weirdest things that Asda shoppers try to return, exposing what it's really like to work in the popular store.

Paramedic Samuel, who lives with partner Clare and their nine-month-old twins, has also detailed his least favourite kind of shopper and the biggest perks of working there.

Samuel told of the time a customer carried a half-eaten Christmas turkey through the store and plonked it on the counter, demanding his money back because it didn't taste right.

He said that a customer bringing back half-eaten food was definitely a new low.

Samuel calmly said: "I'm sorry, you can't half eat something and bring it back, it doesn't work like that."

The customer then flew into a rage, which wasn't uncommon.

Customers were always trying to bring things back that couldn't be returned, claims Samuel. It was a regular occurrence that at Christmas half-eaten turkeys would be brought back, and sometimes even chickens.

He explains that they'd complain it didn't taste like they expected - even though thousands of other customers were happy, and people would get really upset when we told them they couldn't have their money back when most of it had gone.

Samuel went on to say that customers were always complaining and he just got used to it.

But complaints weren’t limited to returns.

He also told of the time he rowed with a customer in a car park as he used an electric cart to bring the trolleys in. He was accused of almost running into the customer's car and had to remind him of the 10mph speed limit.

But what was the worst kind of customer Samuel experienced during his time there? Those who ignore closing time, especially on a Sunday.

He told the publication how people would act like he was invisible when it came to 4pm on a Sunday - even when he told them to take their items to the checkout.

And when customers did make the tills, they weren't always the kindest to employees.

Samuel added: "I once had a customer say to me after handing me £500 'I bet that is the most money you have handled.

"It was quite rude. I don't think I responded to it to be honest most of the time I didn't speak to people on the checkouts because I didn't want to engage with them."

Samuel explained that people tended to look down on him because of his job.

But it wasn’t all bad, as he explained the 10% staff discount did come in handy, and he loved the double discount days for staff.
