Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud drops MLS hint to copy Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has hinted at a possible exit from AC Milan, citing his admiration for the MLS.

Giroud, 36, became France's all-time leading goal at the World Cup in Qatar just months ago and his current deal at the San Siro is set to expire this summer. Having claimed the Scudetto under Stefano Piolo last season, the ex-Premier League star is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding his immediate footballing future.

Making 24 appearances so far this season - and scoring nine goals - Giroud is still relied upon as the club's go-to centre forward, with Rafael Leao supplying further service out wide. Leao has long been linked with a move to England, to clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Giroud was asked about his Milan future in an interview in Italy (via 90min) and hinted his long-term plans could involve the MLS if he moves from Serie A.

“I want to renew with Milan, with the Scudetto win I entered the hearts of the fans. I’m talking with the club, if there’s a chance to finish my career at a high level at Milan I’ll do it,'' he began. “I could choose an exotic destination, I’ve always liked MLS.”

Milan are no strangers to letting players leave to depart on journeys across the Atlantic, with David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic just two high-profile names who have featured for both Milan and in the MLS towards the end of their footballing careers.
