Former Ajax star Amin Younes has hit out at claims that he behaved similarly to Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portuguese continuing to receive criticism for his decision not to come on against Tottenham.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker walked out of Old Trafford during the closing stages of the Red Devils’ 2-0 victory with boss Erik ten Hag choosing not to introduce him as a substitute. That behaviour saw Ronaldo dropped for the weekend’s clash against Chelsea as punishment.
Interestingly enough, it is not the first time that Ten Hag has seen one of his players refuse to be introduced having started on the bench. German international Younes played under the Dutchman at Ajax and during a clash with Heerenveen, initially started as a substitute.
With the Amsterdam giants cruising to a 4-1 victory, Ten Hag intended to introduce the midfielder but he refuse d. Like Ronaldo, Younes suffered the wrath of his manager having been dropped from the Ajax squad for the remainder of the campaign. He did not play another game for the Dutch club having sealed a move to Serie A giants Napoli in the following summer window.
With footage of the incident having recently resurfaced, Younes has claimed that the circumstances are completely different to that of Ronaldo.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Totally not true! I signed 3 month before that happened already for SSC Napoli.(free agent) So it was clear that I leave the club! The context is totally different than many people tell!”

A supporter then claimed that the German indeed refused to take to the pitch, with the now 29-year-old taking aim at the fan.
He continued: “Whole other discussion and pair of shoes. But thanks for your comment number 1.million Gerry. You’re the man finally and now you can go home get in discussion with your wife who is cutting potatoes today for dinner.”
Younes’ career has certainly not panned out as he would have hoped since the indiscretion. He made just 27 appearances in two seasons for Napoli before joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on-loan.
That temporary deal was terminated with Younes going on to join Saudi side Al-Ettifaq. He now finds himself back in the Eredivisie with FC Utrecht but has made just two appearances for the club since the start of the season.
In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will be free to return to the United squad for this week. The Red Devils face Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday evening before then entertaining West Ham United at the weekend.
Ronaldo has so far made 12 appearances for United this season but has just two goals to his name in all competitions.
