Former AFL footballer Tarryn Thomas will face court accused of making a series of allegedly harassing phone calls.
The 24-year-old was arrested and a house at Ormond, in Melbourne's southeast, was searched on Tuesday morning.
Police later confirmed a man was charged with using a telecommunications service to harass and breaching a court order.
Thomas was sacked from North Melbourne earlier this year after repeated conduct breaches, including threatening a woman.
He was also suspended for 18 games.
The AFL said it was aware of Thomas' fresh charges and confirmed he currently could not train or play at any level of the sport without its approval.
"The AFL will specifically not permit Mr Thomas to join the list of any AFL club pending the hearing and determination of the charges that have now been brought against him and subject to the outcome of those proceedings," a statement read.
"More broadly, it is the AFL's intent that Mr Thomas will not be approved to play at any level of Australian Football pending the hearing and determination of the charges that have now been brought against him and subject to the outcome of those proceedings."
Thomas has been bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court on November 21.
