Ewan McGregor and Eve Mavrakis sparked a family feud with their divorce, but he said he is happier now.
They fell on love on the movie set of Kavanagh QC in 1995.
But their marriage came to an end in 2018 when Ewan filed for divorce citing irreconcilable divorces.
They have four daughters from the 22 years they spent together building their family.
Everything in their family begun to fall apart when Ewan started dating his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 35.
Their eldest daughter Clara, 24, branded Mary a "piece of trash" in an Instagram as she made sure the world knew her feelings.
Her venomous comment appeared to be a response to a photograph of Ewan and Mary kissing at the 2014 Vanity Fairs Oscars party surfaced on a fan account.
She wrote: "Most beautiful and talented woman on earth??? Oh man y'all are delusional. The girl is a piece of trash :) x."
A fan responded: "Say it to her face not in social media. It took TWO to undo this marriage.
"If a man OR woman is happy w/ their marriage no outside interference can destroy that!"
She replied: "Yup it took two!! Mary & my father :)."
It may not have been her "finest moment" but Clara admitted there had been a lot of tension snowballing before the explosive social media comment.
She told The Times : "There had been a lot building up to it and a lot to deal with, not to make excuses or anything, but, yeah, it wasn’t my finest moment. But I’m not afraid to speak out if I feel strongly about something.
“I kept being tagged in this photograph and I was seeing negative things about my mum. I said how I felt and I didn’t want to apologise for it.
“It wasn’t the right way to go about things, but it’s a hard thing to wrap your head around when you feel you had this idea of what the family unit is and then to have that shift. It’s very weird.
"The picture surfaced on my little sister’s birthday, but my dad didn’t know it was going to come out. He didn’t want us to see that, but, you know, there were paparazzi following them around."
Soon after Clara and her dad were back on good terms.
Just seven months into his whirlwind romance, Ewan had no qualms claiming he was happier with his new girlfriend Mary.
He told Men's Journal : "Lighter? Today? As opposed to then?
"I am better. I am happier. I think that's true."
