Evil Peter Tobin dies as Johnstone-born serial killer's grim life comes to an end

Johnstone serial killer Peter Tobin has died at the age of 76.

The multiple murderer, who had cancer, died around 6am this morning in an Edinburgh hospital, police said.

He had been serving life sentences at HMP Edinburgh for the horrific killings of Angelika Kluk, Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol.

Tobin was most recently pictured at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh chained to a bed after falling and breaking his hip.

The Daily Record reported last month that Tobin had been refusing food and his medication and was described as being 'on death's door'.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At 6.04am on Saturday, October 8, officers attended at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following the death of a 76-year-old man.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Before being convicted of murder in 2007, Tobin had already spent a decade in jail for the rape of two minors in 1993 at his flat in Leigh Park, Havant, Hampshire for which he was released in 2004.

In 2007, he was convicted of the murder the previous year of 23-year-old Polish student Angelika in Glasgow, for which he was given a life sentence.

This case prompted detectives to delve deeper into the monster’s past where they uncovered more grisly murders.

In 2008, Tobin was tried at the High Court in Dundee for 15-year-old Vicky's murder.

The teenager was last seen on February 10, 1991 as she waited for a bus home to Redding, near Falkirk.

Following Tobin’s 2007 conviction, detectives searched a property in Margate, Kent where he had lived in 1991 and found her remains.

A search at the same property one month later uncovered the remains of 18-year-old sixth former Dinah from Tillingham, Essex, who had gone missing on August, 5 1991 after hitchhiking back from a festival in Liphook, Hampshire, when Tobin picked her up.

At the time of his death, Tobin was serving three life sentences for each of these murders.

It is believed he had a hand in many more – Tobin was suspected of the murder of Dorothea Meechan whose body was found in 1971 in Renfrew, where he lived.

But he takes those secrets to the grave with him now.
