A babysitter who showed "no remorse" after the "brutal" murder of a girl, 1, by shaking and beating her has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 20 years.
Sean Sadler was also today handed a concurrent three-year term for an attack on toddler Lilly Hanrahan committed around a week before a fatal assault.
Sentencing the 32-year-old at Birmingham Crown Court this afternoon, Mr Justice Saini said the defendant had made "shameful and cowardly" attempts to cover up his role in the murder.
Imposing a mandatory life term, the judge said: "You delayed seeking medical help for a number of hours and in doing so showed callous indifference to Lilly's suffering. It must have been obvious to you that she was seriously hurt.
"This was a brutal assault, on any view, and you have shown no remorse."
The tragic tot suffered a fatal brain injury and multiple broken bones during the attack.
Sadler, of Coriander Close, Northfield, had also been found guilty of wounding after more than 40 other recent and healing injuries were discovered on the child's body.
These included bleeding to her lungs and three cracked vertebrae.
He was convicted on Wednesday, bringing to an end an agonising wait of more than three years for justice for Lilly's family, following her death on November 22, 2017.
Her mum was a heroin addict and the baby was discharged into the care of her grandmother Lesley Hanrahan following her birth on February 21, 2016.
Another woman was then appointed the girl’s special guardian and the following July Lilly moved into the woman’s house.
She was doing extremely well until the woman began a relationship with Saddler in Spring 2017.
He became a regular visitor and she began to leave Lilly in Sadler’s care, with devastating consequences.
On November 19, 2017, Lilly was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after she was found unresponsive at her home.
Although surgeons battled to save her, Lilly's life support was withdrawn three days later.
Sadler, who denied murder, claimed Lilly had fallen asleep on the sofa after watching television, but that he later called an ambulance when he was unable to wake her.
A post-mortem examination found she had suffered a fatal head injury and six shattered ribs, with the cause likely to have been from being violently shaken and thrown against a soft surface, like a sofa arm.
Birmingham Crown Court previously heard the tot had been a "normal, healthy girl".
Jonas Hankin QC, prosecuting, said: "She had no recent significant illness or accident.
"The head injury that caused her death was between the times she was last seen to be well and when she lost consciousness.
"It occurred when she was in the care of Sean Sadler.
"The prosecution contends that Sean Sadler caused the death of Lilly by assaulting her and he is responsible for her murder.
"The likely mechanism was forceful shaking, possibly involving an impact on a yielding surface such as the armrest of a sofa.
"Sadler also caused her older injuries, the fractures to the vertebrae and bleeding in the lungs."
Earlier this week, heartbreaking footage of Lilly bopping up and down to music was released, with her grandmother Ms Hanrahan describing her as a "happy loving little girl".
“Lilly was funny, she’d hear music and she was off. She loved music, she loved dancing," the 70-year-old, from Nechells, said.
