Everything you need to know about your Spotify Playlist in a Bottle

Spotify has launched a Playlist in a Bottle feature, allowing you to send your future self a musical time capsule.

The new feature gets you to choose at least three songs to place in a bottle, or container of your choice, which you will then be able to open in a year's time. All you have to do is pick a container and answer some questions with the most appropriate song.

You'll have to choose three songs minimum, but you can pick answers to as many of the prompts as you like. Once you're done, you can choose to share a screenshot of your bottle and the artists featured on it.

Here's everything you need to know:

How do I get my Playlist in a Bottle:

You can head to this website, or scan the QR code here, or open the Spotify app to find the prompt to create your playlist.

What do I have to do:

The first step is to choose which container you want to put your playlist in, with options ranging from the traditional bottle to more unusual options like the tiny pocket you have in your jeans or a gumball machine.

After that, you'll be able to choose the songs to go in it based on prompts from the app. You can either search for a song that fits the prompt, or randomise to see if one of your most listened-to songs fits the bill.

Once you've chosen three songs, you'll be able to shut the bottle, or keep going and add extra songs with extra prompts, and after each song you can choose if you're done or to keep going.

What prompts are there:

There's a wide variety of prompts, and some encourage you to look to the year ahead and predict the songs that will define it, like a song you need to hear live in 2023, or a song that's going to be this summer's anthem, or a song that's going to be a classic by next year.

There's also a few that are more personal, like a song that reminds you of your favourite person, a song you're going to kiss someone to this year, or a song you'd pay to hear for the first time again. Or, you can think about the moment you will open the capsule, and choose a song that won't make any sense a year from now, or a song that should be here just because.

If you're not a fan of the prompt you get, you can always skip it, but you'll have to answer a minimum of three.
