Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse 2025

Nicole Kidman tried to warn us about that dang Blood Moon on Practical Magic.
What is a Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse?
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon line up at a certain angle so the Moon passes through the Earth’s shadow.
When this happens, the moon turns a blood reddish colour, hence the name.
It’s relatively rare, given the last one was in November of 2022 and moon gazers have been eagerly awaiting this event for the last two years.
When can we see the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in Australia?
The eclipse will be visible for about three hours and 40 minutes from the time it starts changing colour at 8:09pm (AEDT).
What time to see the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse in each state:
Sydney – 7.13pm
Melbourne – 7.40pm
Brisbane – 6.04pm
Canberra – 7.22pm
Adelaide – 7.35pm
Darwin – 7.02pm
Hobart – 7.32pm
Perth peeps, notice that your state is missing from the list? I regret to inform you this was not an accident.
The blood moon won’t be visible from your lovely state this time around as moonrise will be at 6.37pm local time, thus obscuring your view.
Booooooo!
This doesn’t mean you won’t feel its energy, however!

Where is the best place to see it?
Heading somewhere high is always the best idea so find a place with a high vantage point like a hill or a cliff and cast your eyes to the eastern horizon.
Ideally you want somewhere dark that doesn’t have any visual obstructions. As for those in major cities, you should be able to see it easily, unless there’s major fog or storms.
When is the next Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse?
Be sure to cancel your plans tonight so you can tune in to this glorious event ‘cos the next one isn’t until March of 2026.
Should I charge my crystals?
Absolutely NOT. Here’s why.
