Jim Henson fans, rejoice: Labyrinth is getting a sequel.
As Deadline reported last week, Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) is set to take on a sequel to the beloved 1986 classic, which starred David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.
The original became a cult favourite with a devoted fanbase all over the world, with various tie-in novels and comic books appearing in the decades since.

When will the Labyrinth sequel be released?
Given rumours of a sequel have been about for a couple of years, it's not entirely clear when this reboot will be released, though the announcement of a director firms things up a bit. We're presuming it will come out towards the end of 2021 or 2022.
That said, Derrickson might be tied up for a while. The director, who dropped out from directing Doctor Strange 2 due to creative differences with Marvel, is also in development on a film about the Bermuda Triangle, starring Chris Evans.
Announced ahead of the coronavirus shutdown, it is not yet known whether Derrickson will continue with Bermuda, and which project he might film first.
The Labyrinth sequel will be written by Maggie Levin, who wrote an episode of Hulu’s recent horror series Into the Dark.
Who was in the original cast?
Labyrinth boasted a cast of now-famous faces, including a young Jennifer Connolly, who went on to become an Oscar winner.
David Bowie famously played Jareth the Goblin King in a now-iconic performance that entranced and terrified a generation.
Meanwhile, Shelley Thompson played Stepmother, while the late Christopher Malcolm played Father.
Bowie and Macolm, of course, sadly won't return, though there's no word of whether any of the other original cast will put in a performance. On Twitter, Gillian Anderson and Janelle Monáe seem to be the fan favourites to become the new Jareth. We can but dream.
