INDEPENDENCE supporters will be marching to Faslane Naval Base on Saturday in protest against nuclear weapons.
Here’s everything you need to know about All Under One Banner’s plans.
Where is the march and what time does it begin?
The march will begin at 12.30pm from the junction at the Briars. This is located approximately 550 metres south of the entrance of the Peace Camp.
Marchers are being encouraged to leave early, so as to arrive at the assembly area in plenty time to get in formation.
The rally will then take place in front of the south gate of Faslane Naval Base and will begin once the march arrives at around 1.15pm and finish about 3.15pm.
Speakers from the SNP, Alba Party, Now Scotland, Stop the War Coalition and others will be in attendance.
There will also be entertainment from Andy Docherty and Neil Mackay.
Whilst industrial action on the rail service has been causing disruption this week, Saturday is not a Network Rail strike, meaning the only affected part of the network in Scotland should be the east coast main line rather than ScotRail.
For those traveling by car, there is parking available in both the Faslane Cemetery car park as well as the car park adjacent to the Peace camp.
When are the stewards’ briefings?
The organisers are seeking additional volunteer stewards. Those wishing to volunteer should attend the stewards briefings which will take place at 11.30am and 12pm at the junction with the Briars.
Anybody who misses this should just approach a steward when they arrive.
Which route will it follow?
The procession route is as follows: Assemble at and proceed North from the junction with the Briars on the east of the A814 to the crossing point, then on the A814 to the U266 Maidstone Road and onwards to the south gate for the rally.
How many will be there?
Organisers are estimating several hundred people will attend the demonstration, March for Independence – For a Nuclear Free Scotland.
Supporters are encouraged to bring instruments, drums and whistles for maximum audibility.
Has coach travel been organised?
A coach will leave Bathgate Railway station at 9am sharp, picking up people in George Square (outside Costa Coffee) at 10.30am.
It will leave Faslane at 5.30pm on the return journey to Edinburgh via Glasgow. Tickets are £5 for concessions and £10 for general and can be purchased via Eventbrite.
Which roads will be closed?
The march will not result in any road closures, apart from in practice the short duration when the procession crosses the A814.
Police Scotland will facilitate the march with stop and hold measures which, in conjunction with the steward team, will ensure smooth passage for all participants and minimum disruption to traffic and public transport.
What is the dress code?
There is no specific dress code for the demonstration, but organisers are encouraging everyone to wear vibrant colours and flags and banners (both Scots and international) are encouraged – for maximum visibility.
When is the next march?
The next march is scheduled to take place in Inverness on Saturday August 20.
