You can easily spot the influencers that have never worked in an office before — especially when they pull together scandalous ‘work’ outfits that would get real office staff fired in a heartbeat. I can feel HR rolling their eyes when they see ‘office siren’ looks on their feed.
No, really, one TikToker even commented on an office siren post: “We have an… intern position that goes straight to a six-figure salary job at graduation. This girl wore an office siren outfit [on] day two & was immediately fired for it.”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want that to be me (or you, for that matter!). So, we’ve pulled together everything you need in your office capsule wardrobe — all of which you can find at Target.

One vest, blazer and cardigan
Every office baddie needs a staple vest, blazer and cardigan in their work wardrobe. Important meeting? Chuck on a blazer. Work drinks with a client? Change into an elevated vest. Is the office air conditioner blasting again? Chuck on a cardigan. Heck, I would even wear these to a bar — business casual is soooo back.
Blazers come in so many different styles now, from ruched sleeves to double-breasted and collarless. You can even shake things up with a vest, from a tailored hook and eye style to a longline vest silhouette. You can get affordable blazers and vests at Target, so you can easily update your work wardrobe without breaking the bank.
Don’t brush off a cardigan, either. You can grab buttonless ones that give off the same effect as a blazer. This is the perfect option if you’re after a transeasonal corporate clothing staple (AKA a light layer that you won’t overheat in).
I’d recommend choosing black so you don’t have to worry about getting it dirty, as there’s nothing worse than trying to sponge off a wine stain or a coffee spill. Yes, I speak from personal experience.

One blouse, statement top and loose-fitted shirt
Now that you’ve got your vest and blazer, you need workwear tops to go underneath it. Blouses are so back, according to Vogue, with the runway featuring heaps of “draped and scarf-like styles.”
Statement tops are also all over my FYP, which are perfect for the office. By adding a ruffle, pattern or tie-front, it’ll really add some pizazz (and start a conversation with that one colleague you’re yet to crack). Pare back with black work pants or your go-to jeans for more casual days to let the statement top shine.
Finally, a loose-fitted button-up shirt should always be a part of your work wardrobe, especially one that you can pair with tailored pants. Add some ballet flats or a pointed-toe heel, and you’ve got yourself a classic workwear ‘fit that is stylish yet still appropriate for any office space.

One pair of wide-leg and straight-leg pants
Never underestimate the power of work pants. A good pair of tailored pants can truly dress up an outfit when you just want to wear a comfy top, giving you the best of both worlds. Wear with heels, sneakers, flats, boots and beyond – the styling options are truly endless with this workwear staple.
The most important things to consider when picking staple work pants are colour, pattern, silhouette and length.
Are the pant colours easy to match? Will the patterns clash? Does the silhouette work in a variety of different ways? Finally, will the length work with your shoes? That’s where people get caught off guard the most, with pants that are either long for their boots or too short for their loafers.
Straight-leg pants are an easy win here, but take it from Hello! Magazine — don’t be afraid to try wide-leg pants, either. They’re all the rage for a reason. Plus, if all else fails, tailoring is our top tip to make it look like they were made just for you! If you’re wondering where to get your work pants from, Target has easy-to-match colours and the latest patterns.

One pair of flats and heels
The most hotly debated question around work shoes is whether showing your dogs (AKA toes) is okay. Some may say no, but if it’s a relaxed office, sandals pair nicely with a long skirt. The long skirt elevates the look, and the sandals are the finishing touch. Or if your dress code is stricter, ballet flats are a popular choice for the office girlies as they are comfortable for all-day wear yet stylish.
You also might like a heel (works wonders with long pants that you don’t have time to hem), whether that’s in boots or a kitten style.
Heels are where you can play around with patterns or colours, but just make sure to pick one or the other so it still matches. For example, you could go with a snakeskin look but in brown or cherry red with no patterns.
Above all, make sure to have fun with your work shoes! Everybody loves a fun footwear statement.

Now, go out there and get your new workwear wardrobe. I’d recommend grabbing everything at once so you can physically see if they match together. Bonus points if you take your work bestie to Target so they can give you a yay or nay. Don’t forget your workwear accessories, and good luck out there.
