The A19 remains closed after an investigation has been launched following a crash this morning.
Emergency services were called in the early hours of Wednesday morning to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A19 after a collision at the junction of the A690.
The ambulance service dispatched three crews from its Hazard Area Response Team, two double crewed ambulances and two clinical care managers, with one person taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

What have the police said so far?
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly before 1am today (Wednesday) officers were alerted to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A19 between the A690 and A183.
"Emergency services currently remain at the scene and an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
"Foxcover Lane and both north and southbound lanes on the A19 remain closed while enquiries are ongoing at the scene.
"Drivers are asked to use an alternative route until the road re-opens."
What have the ambulance service said?
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 00:58 to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A19 at the junction of the A690.
"We dispatched three crews from our Hazard Area Response Team, two double crewed ambulances and and two clinical care managers.
"One patient was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.”
What roads are currently closed?
A19 is currently closed in both directions with heavy traffic due to accident investigation work from A183 to A690 Durham Road (Herrington Interchange).
The road has been closed since the early hours of Wednesday morning. Foxcover Road, which runs over the A19, is also closed to stop onlookers.
Are there any diversions in place?
There is a diversion currently in place. Traffic to follow the Hollow Square symbol heading South and the Solid Circle Symbol heading North, via Shiney Row, New Herrington and East Herrington, both of which are seeing delays.
Is there any disruption on public transport?
Major bus operators Go North East have confirmed that they are currently seeing delays of up to 95 minutes due to the A19 Northbound & Southbound closure, surrounding roads are also heavily congested due to diverting traffic.
