Everything we know about Outlander book 10 as Diana Gabaldon shares new reveal

It's one of the most popular book series of modern times, and with the accompanying TV show now heading for its seventh season, Outlander author Diana Gabaldon is hard at work writing the final book.

The as-yet-unnamed book 10 is one of a few major projects the prolific author is currently working on, including a prequel featuring Jamie Fraser's parents Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.

Eager fans who may have already just finished book 9, 'Go Tell the Bees', have something else to enjoy, with another snippet from the new project.

Shared on October 31, the excerpt features William Ransom, Jamie Fraser's secret son, needing help from Jamie to save Lord John Grey.

And as it's spoilers for those of you who aren't caught up, we'd advise only reading it if you aren't bothered about knowing more about the future storylines which may appear in the hit TV show.

Outlander Book 10

Though book 10 is set to be the final book of the adventures of Jamie and Claire, Diana, who often lets the characters drive the story while writing, recently teased that if Jamie and Claire are "not ready to die yet", she admitted she will likely carry the story on - could this mean an 11th book or even a new series? Only the future will tell.

The Arizona-born author has joked before that she thought the original book was supposed to be a single release and now here we are another eight books later with a final book on the way.

When will it be released?

Diana will be the first to admit she's only just started writing it, she recently told Town & Country that she is just "poking away at it little by little".

She did confirm she knows the ending though and has done for nearly 20 years – and yes, it will end in Scotland.

The author has yet to confirm a time frame – or even a name – so we'll have to wait and see.

And though people may be worried about their favourite characters, the author reckons they needn't fash.

"The last book will have a happy ending," She revealed. "Although I confidently expect it to leave the readers in floods of tears anyway.”
