Everything We Know About F1, The Brad Pitt Film About The World’s Zoomiest Sport

Rev your engines and buckle the fuck up because the trailer for Brad Pitt‘s long-awaited Formula One movie F1 is finally here — and just in time for the first Grand Prix of the 2025 season in Melbourne!

For the last year, Brad Pitt, his co-star Damson Idris and the film’s director Joseph Kosinski have been following around the talented drivers in the paddock to film the most realistic F1 movie that the world has ever seen.

According to seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton — who is a producer on the film — it is the “most authentic racing film you will ever experience”.

“The film was shot during the F1 races over the course of a season, and with Joe at the helm, audiences around the globe are going to feel like they’re on the track and in the driver’s seat,” he said.

As the director of Top Gun: Maverick, Kosinski was no stranger to heart-racing action and high-speed scenes. But while most fast car scenes or chases we see in movies are often staged, Kosinski was determined for the film to feel as real as possible.

“Brad and Damson are both driving in this film, and in order to get them into these race cars, it required months, literally months of training,” Kosinski explained, with Hamilton stepping in as their driving sensei.

“I’ll never forget having Lewis Hamilton as your driving instructor, but what we learned — and what Lewis was really interested in seeing — was that Brad knows how to drive. Because if Brad couldn’t drive, this whole film wasn’t going to work. And what Lewis was very happy to discover was that Brad had a lot of just natural ability right from the start.

“You have to be fearless, and when you see Brad driving, that’s not acting. He’s really concentrating on keeping that car on the track and out of the wall during all those scenes. It’s something you just can’t fake.

“He’s just a very talented, naturally gifted driver, which gave Lewis a lot of confidence that we might have a shot at pulling this off.”

Hamilton admits he was equally as shocked to see how naturally the Bullet Train star handled the speed of the track.

“Watching Brad drive around speeds over 180 miles an hour was really impressive to see because it’s not something you can just learn overnight,” Hamilton said.

“And the dedication and the focus that Brad put into this process has been amazing to witness.”

What is F1 about?

The film follows former F1 driver Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) as he comes out of retirement for a special offer to represent the fictional APXGP team alongside a brand-spankin’ new rookie driver, Joshua Pierce (Damson Idris).

He’s tasked with mentoring the young gun, but of course, their egos clash as they’re thrust into the world’s most demanding competitions.

Who has been cast in F1?

Although the full cast of F1 hasn’t been released just yet, we do know some of the key cast members. Alongside Pitt and Idris is Javier Bardem, playing the Toto Wolfe-esque team manager, Ruben.

Kerry Condon, Simone Ashley, and Tobias Menzies have also been confirmed to appear in the project.

Another perk of filming during the real F1 season is that fans of the sport might be able to spot their favourite drivers in the background. So along with the stellar acting cast, Hamilton says you “may even recognize some familiar faces from the world of Formula One racing”.

“As someone who’s dedicated his whole life to this sport, I’m so, so honored to have worked alongside this team of actors and filmmakers,” Hamilton continued.

“This has been such a thrill for me. And I genuinely promise this film delivers on every level.”

Is there a trailer for F1?

Yes, yes there is! You can check out the high-octane trailer below.

When does F1 come out?

I know we’re all caught up with F1 fever due to the Melbourne Grand Prix kicking off this weekend, but we’ll have to wait a little while for the film to premiere.

Warner Bros. Pictures will be releasing the film in cinemas on June 25, 2025.

I can’t bloody wait!!!
