'Everything is going up’ - Punters have their say as Wetherspoons' price rises

Wetherspoons has put the prices of drinks up and pub goers say they will ‘have to cope with it’.

With the cost of living going up Wetherspoons across Nottinghamshire have increased their drinks around an average of 10p.

Some visitors at The Last Post Wetherspoons in Beeston told Nottinghamshire Live it’s the cheapest pub in the town. But some said "you have to cope" with the prices going up.

But Craig Lee, who is 52 years old and is retired, told Nottinghamshire Live that The Last Post is his local pub and is not happy about the increases,

Mr Lee said: “I’m not happy - The price of living is going up. The cost of living is going up. This is the cheapest pub in Beeston.”

Another pub goer at Wetherspoons, Andrew Ratledge, 56, from Strelley, said despite the increase in prices that it is "still cheap’" at Wetherspoons.

“It is still cheap here,” Mr Ratledge said. “You can get a pint here for £1.99, if you go somewhere else town it's £5 a pint.

“I like drinking here because it’s cheap.

“It’s the same happening with petrol and food.”

Craig Hackett, who is 53, retired and from Beeston, said he is "okay" with the prices going up and said you have to "cope with it’"

“I’m ok with it - it suits me,” Mr Hackett said. “It’s like everything else going up, you have to cope with it at the end of the day.”

Another local at the pub goer who wished not to be named told Nottinghamshire Live that he believes "it’s expected and the world is a mess".

He said: “Compared to other places in Beeston this is cheaper. A pint is cheaper. It's to be expected - the world is in a mess and we have to pay for it.”

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “ Occasionally Wetherspoon does increase the price of its drinks.

“We always aim to keep our prices as competitive as possible.

“Prices on drinks in the majority of our pubs have increased by an average 10p, with an increase of 20p in pubs in and around London.

“This represents an average two per cent increase in the majority of Wetherspoon pubs and four per cent in pubs in and around London.

“We believe that our drinks offer still represents great value for money.”
