Fortnite Season 8 “Cubed” is live, and after the events of the Season 7 finale yesterday, the map has been littered with Cubes and Cube monsters, and we must now assemble a new team to take them on. That involves a host of new characters and a battle pass full of goodies players will have to grind through yet again, as we have every season for years now.
This pass doesn’t really have a set “theme” like some of the ones in the past, and the collection is pretty diverse. And of course, we are not escaping some sort of licensed Marvel IP crossover, as yes, that’s Carnage you see there. And no, he’s not the secret skin. That would be the shadowed figure in the middle, who I believe is the new villain narrating the story trailer and commanding the Cube army.
So, if you shell out for the battle pass this time, what do you get? Well, we are back to the whole “choose your own unlock order” with battle stars idea we had last time around, and here are the pages you will clear.
Page 1 - Two outfits on page one here, Charlotte and Toona Fish, the animated fish being the thing you can customize this season with different paint colors you will pick up on the map.
Page 2 - No skins here, but this is where you can flesh Charlotte out with her sword and emote and such. It’s a pretty cool sword, I have to admit that.
Page 3 - More Charlotte? More Charlotte, this time, an alternate look for her as she transcends into the spirit realm or...whatever is going on here.
Page 4 - Finally, by page four, we move on to another skin, Kor, who is sort of a more refined looking version of Harley Quinn. But probably the one that stands out the least in this whole collection.
Page 5 - Now we unlock our abs-having Unicorn, Fabio Sparklemane, in addition to an additional style for Kor and some other goodies like sparkle wraps.
Page 6 - Want a golden unicorn instead? Well, here you go, along with one of the most absurd animated emotes I’ve ever seen. You have to listen to the audio.
Page 7 - Now we have the arrival of JB Chimpanski, some sort of man-ape astronaut wit a themed page full of rocket and rover goodies. I told you there wasn’t really a set theme this season.
Page 8 - Now we arrive at Torin, who fronts most battle pass art and is sort of Elsa from Frozen with space armor on. She also has a cool sword like her friend Charlotte you can unlock on this page.
Page 9 - Torin gets a “sideways” style that makes her look terrifying. JB gets a monkey dance and I can already tell that people are going to be using this all the time.
Page 10 - Finally, of course, they have saved the most coveted Marvel unlocks for the final page here, Carnage has his own set of gear that emerges from his body in a unique animation set, I believe, which you can see shown off in the trailer. Glad he’s not the secret skin, but it will still take a while to unlock him.
Not sure how I would rate this battle pass against past ones, but I’ll see if anything grows on me. For now, it’s time to start hunting those battle stars.
