Everything about Glasgow's appearance in The Batman ahead of its upcoming release

The Batman movie will hit cinemas in a little over two weeks time, with movie fans across the globe counting down the days until its release in expectation.

With box office taking predicted to be huge on the opening weekend, cinemagoers in Glasgow while find themselves in the quite unique position of seeing Glasgow double up as Gotham City on the big screen - while Glasgow doubles up as Gotham right now.

That's of course the case as production continues on Batgirl in the city, with filming at the weekend seeing Michael Keaton's Batman battle some Gotham baddies underneath the Kingston Bridge.

Ahead of the release of The Batman, here's everything we know about the film and what role Glasgow will play as Gotham in it:

Who stars in it?

Robert Pattinson stars as The Caped Crusader himself, with Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrel as The Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Paul Dano as The Riddler and Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson.

When will the movie come out?

The Batman comes out here on March 4, having been pushed back from June 25 and then October 1 last year due to production delays as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

What will Glasgow’s role as Gotham be like?

Filming for the blockbuster took place amid much excitement in and around Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis back in February of 2020.

This involved stunt doubles for Batman on his amazing-looking Batbike as well as Catwoman, with a third person - believed to be one of The Penguin's 'goons' - also spotted in a chase scene through the graveyard.

This gave rise to rumours that Glasgow Cathedral will double up as Gotham Cathedral in the movie, with rumours also surfacing that the cathedral could be 'blown up' in the film.

The rumours stem from reports that came out from Cardington Sheds in Bedford - where filming took place - that a full-scale replica of the Cathedral and the surrounding streets were built for the funeral sequence shown in the trailer(s).

While the idea that Glasgow Cathedral will double up as Gotham Cathedral seems to have been confirmed via stills released from the film, showing Batman and Catwoman standing in the Necropolis with the Gotham skyline behind them - with the Cathedral and Royal Infirmary clearly visible alongside CGI skyscrapers.

Speaking of the trailer(s), Glaswegians have already been treated to the (brief) sight of Batman scooting through the Necropolis on the Batbike, while leaked footage also shows Catwoman doing the same.

The footage has also given rise to the suggestion that Batman's Batcave may actually be located under the Necropolis in the movie.

Those who caught filming of the blockbuster will also recall that scenes were shot of Catwoman on her bike bombing it down Wishart Street and under the Bridge of Sighs, while Batman heads in the other direction towards Alexandra Parade.

Robert Pattinson must be impressed with how Glasgow looks on the big screen, saying it makes for a "brilliant Gotham" in response to the news that Batgirl was also filming here.

Where else did they film in or near Glasgow?

Filming also took place for the blockbuster within the grounds of the old Hartwood Hospital in North Lanarkshire.

The former psychiatric hospital will double-up as Gotham Orphanage in the movie.

Signs for 'Gotham Orphanage', as well as Batman's batsuit, were spotted in the grounds by locals in February of 2020, with one huge sign near the former hospital reading 'Gotham Renewal Corporation - Investing in our future - Gotham Orphanage'.

Villagers in Hartwood, near Shotts, received letters from Warner Brothers advising that filming would also be taking place.

Where else did filming take place outside of Scotland?

Filming also took place in Chicago and in London - involving The Penguin (spotted on site) as well as scenes involving Bruce Wayne possibly being mugged by The Penguin's 'goons' in a park and him watching a speech being made by Commissioner Pete Savage - played by none other than Lennoxtown-born actor Alexander Ferns.

Additional scenes were also shot in various locations in Liverpool, including at St. George's Hall (which doubled up as Gotham City hall), Anfield Cemetery and the Royal Liver building - which Batman jumps off in the trailer in a wingsuit.

Robert Pattinson has revealed however that around 90% of the film was shot in WB's Leavseden studio outside London, with about eight blocks of Gotham City built for filming.

We genuinely can't wait to see Glasgow 'steal the show' as Gotham in The Batman.
