Every word Thomas Tuchel said on Roman Abramovich and Chelsea as he shuts down war talk

Thomas Tuchel interrupted a reporter putting forward a question about Roman Abramovich and Ukraine during his pre-match press conference.

The Chelsea coach lost his cool after fielding a number of questions about the club's and Roman Abramovich's position in relation to the ongoing war following Russia's invasion.

Tuchel spoke at length on Friday regarding the uncertainty the Blues face before the Chelsea owner announced in a statement on the eve of the Carabao Cup final that he was handing over his 'stewardship' of the club.

Understandably, Tuchel was approached with more questions on the matter on Tuesday about Abramovich's ownership and how distracting it was for the club.

There are serious matters going on in the world right now and uncertainty around Roman Abramovich's control of Chelsea, he's passed control to the trustees, can I ask for your thoughts on that?

"Same thoughts as the day of the final, I think that for me as a coach and in charge of the first team that decision does not change too much the daily business.

"I'm in the daily exchange with Petr Cech and very regular exchange with Marina [Granovskaia], about how to improve the first team and this will not stop because they stay in charge. So on a daily basis, it will not change too much for me."

Is Roman Abramovich's ownership a problem in current international situation?

"I have to say that's a bit too much for me to answer. I'm not aware of any details, and I'm not aware of the whole situation.

"We all agree there are situations much, much more important than football, this will never change. And situations like war are of course so much more important.

"But the role of Mr. Abramovich is not on me to comment, because I simply don't know enough about it."

How much of a distraction is everything that is going on and how do you lift the team after Sunday?

"Lifting the team after Sunday should not be too hard. I think that everybody knows we played a strong match, played to our characteristics and identity.

"We played with full commitment and a lot of quality. You can never control the result and a winner had to be found. It was found after 22 penalties which, more or less, tells you the story. So that should not be a problem.

"It's only two days [between matches]. We gave the players a day off to clear our minds, because it was not only a disappointment but it was physically draining and demanding for us. So it leaves us with a one-day turnaround to be ready tomorrow because this is what it's about.

"It's the next competition and the next round and this is life at Chelsea. We want to be competitive in different competitions, so we have to be ready tomorrow.

"Is that always easy? Maybe not, but this is what we do and what we demand from myself, everybody around the team, and lastly the players. So this is where we are from the sporting side.

"The other one, you always start the question with the same sentence: 'We know there are much more important things than football but can you comment?' You decide to ask me about war and how often do I need to say it? It's horrible. It's horrible. There can't be any other opinion about it. That's it.

"But why should we be more distracted than you at work? That's what I meant when I said it in the first place. It's out there and we know there are more important things out there. This will never change. This is sports but there are a lot more important things out there.

"There is a huge distraction going on and we are worried, but we still try to create an atmosphere to come to work and focus on our work which is our passion. We are very, very grateful and privileged to have it. It's not that big a problem [from a work perspective] but everybody in Europe, more or less, has some noise in their heads that nobody likes.

"It's maybe the same for you, but still you try to do your job as well as possible and it's the same for us."

How worried are you about the future running of the club and what would your message be to the fans at the moment?

"I'm not so sure if I'm the person to give messages to the fans for anything other than sporting. We try to be calm and we are calm in the centre of a storm, of some noise around us that we cannot control and we are also not responsible for. It's best to stay calm and focus on what we love and what we do and this is sport.

"I think we have a right to focus on sports, the players have a right to be focused. I think this is what we can tell the fans and I think this is what the fans saw on Sunday. There is a big situation out there and there is a lot of commitment from the players and from both clubs and all the fans and I think everybody is aware that there are more important things and the situation in Ukraine is much more important that the game in football.

"Still we arrived with two strong teams who played a fantastic match and this is what we can do to distract the fans to distract them and do what we do with maximum effort. I don't see any other solution of what we can do different."

How much do you hope the owner (Roman Abramovich) is using...

"Listen, listen you have to stop, I am not a politician, you have to stop honestly. I can only repeat it and I feel bad to repeat it because I never experienced war. Even to talk about it I feel bad because I am very privileged. I sit here in peace. I do the best I can but you have to stop asking me these questions, I have no answers for you."
