Every word Thomas Tuchel said on Everton vs Chelsea, fireworks, Azpilicueta error, Lukaku, more

Thomas, at full time you walked straight across the pitch and back to the away dressing room. Just how disappointed were you with today's performance?

"Very disappointed. We knew what was coming, and like in the last matches, we struggled to have clean sheets. In the last four matches, we have one clean sheet against West Ham, and it is the only win we have. So very disappointed."

Another individual mistake that led to a goal, is there anything you can do at this point to stop these?

"No, what can I do? The ball is free, then give a goal away. It is the worst thing that can happen to you in this atmosphere and situation. It happens too often, and we struggle to play without big mistakes. That's why we struggle to have results."

Was it an attacking issue today more than a defensive one? What can you do about that because it seems to be a consistent issue?

"If there is something I can do, I will try it, but if I knew about it, I would have done it before. I think, for me, the key is to have a clean sheet. Manchester United was a different game, more open, fluid, and more spaces, and we finally scored late and conceded straight away.

"For me, this is more like the game against West Ham. The opponent defends deep, we struggled to find space in the first half, but against West Ham, we had a clean sheet and played without any big mistakes. That gives us the chance to score late. If you run behind against an opponent like this, in this atmosphere and install emotion and belief in a stadium like this and the opponent's team, you struggle."

What was the reason you didn't choose to bring on Romelu Lukaku?

"Because we had to take Jorgi off [at half time], and I only had three changes."

You said you knew what was coming, is that something to do with the players' attitude?

"What was coming from the opponent, the crowd, and the way to approach the game. We knew that, and nobody was surprised."

Are you now in a battle to finish in the top four?

"Of course, it was always like this. I said it many weeks ago that I didn't ever feel safe. We are never safe. By the way, if we are in a race for top one, top two, or top four, no matter what the race, the last four games to only have four points will never be enough, no matter which race we are in.

"We have to take care of ourselves. At the moment, we don't get the points when we play well and deserve more, and we lose when we play okay, this is a bad mixture."

Did the fireworks at the team hotel impact you?

"Absolutely not. I personally woke up twice at 1am, and 3am for one minute and after the noise. I turned around and kept on sleeping."

Everton played aggressively, is that something you had a problem with?

"No, no, we expected it. It would have been nice to have a referee who was in charge of it – they got away with a lot. He decided to manage the game the way he did, and I was not too happy with it, but it's his way. That is why it is important to not do any mistakes, install belief, and to keep doing what we do on the highest level of focus. We struggled."

Thomas, there is a preferred bidder now in place for the club, what are your thoughts on that?

"I would like you to ask me the question at the next press conference. Right now, after the game, I have no feeling about the game. I am still in the match."

Was it an issue today, Thomas, that the ball didn't stick upfront?

"No, the issue is that we don't have the clean sheets, that's the issue."
