Every word Quevin Castro said on stunning strike and Notts County aim after York City win

There is no better way to introduce yourself to the Notts County fans by producing a goal of the season contender five minutes in to your first start for the club.

And that is exactly what Quevin Castro did for the Magpies in their 3-1 win against York City on Saturday afternoon, taking aim from around 35 yards before crashing a thunderbolt in off the crossbar.

It was a brilliant overall performance from the 21-year-old at the LNER Community Stadium, repaying the faith shown by Luke Williams to go with the midfielder from the start after confirming striker Cedwyn Scott was struggling with a slight injury ahead of kick-off.

Castro showed maturity in possession of the ball, producing clever touches all afternoon and utilising his pace and size to almost bully the York City midfield, while also showing a great burst of pace and eye for a pass that almost got him an assist in the second half.

Following the game, Castro spoke to us about his performance and here is every word he said after the win at York City.

Talk to us about that goal, it was some strike, wasn't it?

QC: "I actually didn't realise how far out it was. I just had my eye on the ball, struck it and it went in the back of the net and it was a fantastic feeling.

"It is just the technique I have always done, and practice makes perfect really so. I have done it at the training ground and had the chance to do it in a game and it turned out well, so I am delighted."

How do settle yourself down and focus on the game again after scoring a goal like that?

QC: "I think obviously being around the team we are, we are a possession-based team, and we know the ball is going to come in the right areas, but we know we have to work hard off the ball, it is just about getting yourself into the game."

How pleased were you with the role you played and the performance of the team?

QC: "I am very pleased with the role I played, I definitely gave what I could for the team on, and off the ball.

"I am delighted with the lads as well, we are amazing."

How important was it to get back to winning ways after last week?

QC: "Yeah, I think it was important for us. If you watch the game back last week, I think we didn't deserve to lose, and I think we had a hunger to prove not to just everyone, but to ourselves that we definitely deserve to be winning games week in, week out so I am delighted with the win."

It didn't work out at Burton, is playing here a motivating factor for you?

QC: "It is very motivating like moving on forward. None of this would be possible without the gaffer that I have here and the bunch of lads that are here, they are all great.

"I don't use it in that way, but I guess every day it is something that fuels me because I want to progress and kick on forward."

What sort of group do you think you have come in to here?

QC "I think we all know what we are about and what we can gain from this season, so I think every day in training we go 100% on and off the ball and we try and put everything out there on game day, and today it showed."

What are you about as a group, what do you want from this season?

QC: "I think this season is about showing our qualities as a group, in possession, but I think the main thing is about out of possession as well. We are so aggressive on the front foot and ready to score so many goals."

Is that the best goal you have ever scored?

QC: "It is definitely up there, but it probably is. I think feeling wise, it is one of the best goals."
