How much does this result mean for you and your team?
Just thank you so much to the boys and our supporters for experiencing afternoon like this. It’s what our profession is about to live days like this and I really enjoyed it. Especially the way we won.
Have you ever seen the atmosphere like this?
I’ve never seen it like this. You cannot imagine how much it helps the players and how much it gives them. One of the nicest things we’ve done since we are together here is to unite everybody and make them feel like when you go are you going to experience something together.
How do you keep the players focused now?
Doing what we do every day. Hopefully they believe more and have more confidence that we can compete at this level and then win, which is the most important thing. Then stay humble and be ready for the training session tomorrow. There are things that we have to do better but with this enthusiasm and empathy between them to become a better team.

Is that the kind of performance against such a big opponent that shows Martinelli is one of the better players in the Premier League?
He’s a great player. I think today he had an outstanding performance against a top defender and a top team and he made a difference in the game as well as the other players. That’s the next level, to step up in these games and make things happen to win it.
Is tying him down to a new contract now top of your to do list?
We don’t get directed by an individual performance. Gabby doesn’t have to show me whether he plays well or not well today what he deserves. What is clear is his hunger, his determination and his love for this game. You don’t know where he’s going to reach because he’s always asking and willing for more.
How good was Tomiyasu on the left today?
Very good. That’s what we hoped he would do and he did that. To think about doing that against Salah and actually doing it is a different story. Especially after playing on Thursday and what he’s been through in the past few weeks.
How far can the team go this season?
At the moment enjoy where we are, and play with the courage and the belief that we played in the second half and go step by step.
Do you have the belief this team can beat anyone?
On the day we play at our best we have a chance. After that winning a football match is dictated by a lot of things you can control and they have to actually do that on the football pitch and that’s a different story.
How good was it to win after being pegged back twice against a side like Liverpool? What can it mean for this young team going forward?
That’s when the feeling of winning is so powerful and meaningful today because I see a team I can identify with and the feeling that they stick to what they have to do and at the same time they have the courage to just go for it, and attack them and put them under pressure.
Your team hardly ever seem to draw. What do you put that down to?
That’s the nature of our team and the way we encourage them to play. If you can win, win.
Was Jesus knocked out, and how is he now?
I don’t know, I haven’t been with the doctor yet but I’m sure they’re checking him. He seemed OK after the game. I don’t actually know what happened, but we will obviously assess how he is.
When can we start mentioning title race?
For me, I’m not going to be mentioning it. You’re not going to hear it from me. We’re happy where we are and let’s try to continue to be there.
Given what happened at the Euros how courageous was Saka to take the penalty?
Yeah, that was a difficult moment, that was an incredible learning curve for him in his career. That’s the way he took it. Everybody around him helped to do that starting with the England national team with Gareth [Southgate] and everybody and how supportive they were. The boy didn’t hesitate to continue because he believes he can take them and under pressure he really enjoys that responsibility.
Is that your best ever win as Arsenal manager?
I don’t know but I’m really happy today.
What did Klopp say to you when you were shaking hands?
He said congratulations. We shook hands and we move on. We don’t normally have time to discuss.
What did the referee say to you two?
It was an incident that happened. Whatever happens on that pitch, stays on that pitch.
What did you think of Odegaard today and his assist?
Great. The way he put the ball to Martinelli in the first minute of the game to make the game in our favour was great. I’m really pleased with the way Martin is playing.
Why did you take him off?
Because I have five subs and I can make those decisions.
