Elland Road witnessed an enthralling and pulsating Premier League fixture between Leeds and Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
The Whites were hit by two first-half goals from Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes before Marcelo Bielsa introduced Joe Gelhardt and Raphinha at the interval.
Both players provided an instant impact, injecting life into the home side's attack.
During a scarcely believable minute early in the second half, Bielsa's men were level, courtesy of Rodrigo Moreno's looping effort from the left-wing, and Raphinha sliding in to connect with Daniel James' low cross at the back post.
There were only a matter of seconds between the two Leeds strikes, as the momentum of the fixture temporarily shifted in the hosts' favour.
Ultimately, goals from Fred and Anthony Elanga killed the game for the visitors, with the match ending 4-2 to Manchester United.
Here is every word Marcelo Bielsa had to say following his team's valiant effort at Elland Road.
How much do the words pride and disappointment sum up your feelings after today's game?
The effort the team made, we can value it, but the relationship between what you get and what you produce is enormous in football.
How disappointing was it to see the ease with which Man United scored their first two goals?
Evidently, we have conceded a lot of games. The amount of goals conceded is not linked to the individualities defensively. It's difficult for us to prevent the opponent creating danger. And to form a more compact block is not simple. Fundamental problems are in the recovery of the ball in the middle of the pitch, and so we had to be without Phillips who is a defensive midfielder After without Koch who is another defensive mid, and after without Pascal who is another defensive mid. In the second half we had to put Pascal back in the defensive line and due to the absence of three players who can do that function, the composition of the midfield doesn't have a defensive profile. And that had an influence in the defensive behaviour of the team today. That also isn't an explanation because we've conceded 50 goals in the league, I'm just commenting about the team today.
What was your thinking tactically with Raphinha not starting today?
I chose to form the attack with other players. They are decisions and changes throughout the season that can happen.
Did you see the necessary fight in your team that you will need to stay up this season?
Yes I did.
Does that give you confidence for the weeks ahead?
To not fight would be a sign that's worrying. And to fight is a starting point but it's not the only thing.
At 2-2 the match was in the balance, did you feel chaos was playing into Leeds' hands - were you disappointed with the lack of control?
No, the game didn't become chaotic in my point of view. We stopped being in charge of the game, and the product of not being in charge of the game, we lost the dominance of the ball. In the moment the team composed itself, we missed a very clear chance to make it 3-2 and in the response of that play they went down the other end and scored. Either way the general transmit of the game, they missed very few chances but they were very efficient. And we were less efficient. And the difference comes through them. We had seven or eight chances to score a goal just like the opponent but they scored in a higher proportion and us not in the same proportion.
Could you explain Robin Koch's withdrawal - why did you not make a concussion substitute?
He had a cut on his head and what excludes him or made him come off is the cut. If the cut is the most significant thing then the knock he received, I acted in accordance to that.
Would you have liked the opportunity to make a fourth substitution?
No, in the second half our performance was better than the first. I am advising the individuals individualities and I didn't observe a player who would have deserved to come off the pitch. That doesn't mean that having a fourth change isn't something favourable. I understand that the main reason for him coming off was the cut, not the knock he received, because he couldn't contain the blood, that's why he came off.
What other qualities will you need to stay up other than fight?
The fight is an element of the game. And you know that fighting is not the only thing, the game has numerous components and the fight indicates commitment that's indispensable to construct a performance. There are other elements that complete this.
Atmosphere very intimidating but there were a number of missiles thrown at Man United players - presumably you would condemn that sort of behaviour?
Any excess other than sporting, shouldn't be approved. I can't evaluate or talk about what you spoke about because I didn't see it.
