Every Scots council's Covid infection rate from Public Health Scotland as 8,022 new cases confirmed

There have been a further 8,022 new cases of Covid confirmed in Scotland as First Minister Nicola Sturgeon this afternoon updates MSPs on the virus situation.

Data has been published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland (PHS) this afternoon as part of the national Covid-19 daily briefing.

Nationally, there are 1,392 patients with the disease being treated in hospital which is down 43 from yesterday's reported figure. There are currently 34 people being treated in ICUs.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased by 135. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 79,340 positive PCR tests in the region and 1,127,067 million across Scotland.

Of the new cases reported, 61 were in South Ayrshire, 41 attributed to East Ayrshire and 33 in North Ayrshire.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Clackmannanshire has the highest rate in the country – at 586.9 as of Monday, January 24.

Dundee City has the second-highest infection rate at 586.6 while Falkirk is third with 583.6.

In terms of Ayrshire's thee local authorities, East Ayrshire has the highest rate of 457.2; South Ayrshire's rate stands at 445.9 while North Ayrshire's is 440.2.

A total of 19 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 485.1.

Another 23 deaths mean 10,222 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 12,675 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, January 16 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 153,916 as of last night and 175,256 with Covid mentioned on the death certificate.

There are 101 patients with the disease being treated in Ayrshire hospitals, a reduction of two from yesterday, and fewer than five people in ICUs.

Nationally, a total of 4,406,999 people have received one dose of a Covid vaccine; 4,112,264 are double jabbed and 3,263,981 people have received a third dose/booster.
