A fan named Tom had travelled from London and donned a sparkling outfit in tribute to Ukraine for the festival. He said he was blown away by Liverpool and branded it the "perfect Eurovision city".

He said: "Liverpudlians know how to party. They know how to bring it. They know how to welcome you with open arms. It's the perfect Eurovision city."

A fan from the Faroe Islands agreed as he said: "I have been to a few Eurovision and douze points to Liverpool." Helen from North Wales was partying in Concert Square and also praised the Scouse welcome. She said: "We absolutely love Liverpool and we love Eurovision."

Michael spoke to the ECHO outside EuroVillage and said he was "proud of Liverpool". He added: "It's definitely a city I want to come back to."

Director of Culture Liverpool, Claire McColgan, led the cultural, community and educational programmes running alongside the contest and described Eurovision as "the most incredible experience of my life ever".

She said: "I think for lots of people in Liverpool and around the world, it will be the most incredible event that they've ever been part of, ever been to, ever looked at on the television, and I am hugely proud of this city, massively proud."
