If there’s one thing about folks with money, it’s that they FROTH an opportunity to display their wealth. So naturally, Amazon overlord Jeff Bezos‘ wedding to journalist Lauren Sánchez is going to be a fiesta for the ages. But with big money, comes big drama.

As can be expected for the controversial couple, their wedding has been marred with scandal from protests to sneaky deets leaking to the press.
So, without further ado, here’s what we know about the rich people schmooze fest and all the behind-the-scenes cookery.
Why did Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez change their wedding venue?
In a huge hooray for the people of Venice, Bezos and his soon-to-be wife have moved their wedding to a smaller part of the city after weeks of protests.
After weeks upon weeks of protests against Bezos’ wedding, sources have confirmed to Reuters that the Amazon big boss has moved his three-day event to an “isolated, less accessible part” of the city due to security concerns and risks of protests.

Originally, the polarising pair were set to wed in the floating city’s Scuola Grande della Misericordia, an old medieval religious school. But now, it’s been moved to The Arsenale, which is surrounded by water and can only be reached when the connecting bridges are operating.
Per the publication, residents and protestors have been lobbying against the extra AF wedding over the last couple of weeks, highlighting that the stanky soirée would turn the beautiful, picturesque city into a “private amusement park for the rich”, and threaten the city’s peaceful nature.

Speaking to Reuters, Tommaso Cacciari, the leader of the “No Space for Bezos” campaign, described the news as a “great victory” for the group.
“The news that Bezos has run away from the Misericordia is a great victory for us,” Cacciari told Reuters, adding that the group promises to make the nuptials a “nightmare” for the pair with more protests planned for the weekend.
According to The Guardian, the group reportedly threatened to fill Venice’s iconic canals with inflatable crocodiles, preventing VIP guests from entering (pls make it happen).
How much does Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding cost?
According to Luca Zaia, the president of the Veneto regional government, which includes Venice, the billionaire bonanza was expected to cost 40-48 million euros (AUD$71-85 million).
Italian news agency ANSA also reported that Bezos “vowed” to donate $1 million to three Venice-based organisations that are committed to researching the ocean and climate change. This includes CORILA, Venice International University and the UNESCO Venice office.
E! News also reported that Bezos and Sánchez have asked guests not to bring a gift, noting that they’d be making a donation on their behalf to CORILA and Venice International University.
“Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard this city’s irreplaceable cultural heritage,” the invite reportedly read.
Adding to that eye-watering price tag, the pair also hosted a foam party on Bezos’ $500 million (AUD$770 million) superyacht, named Koru, ahead of the big day. It’s unknown if the party was in relation to the wedding or Sánchez’s son’s 19th birthday.
What is Lauren Sánchez going to wear?
While details surrounding the journalist’s dress are quite hush-hush, Euro News reported that she’s rumoured to have 27 outfit changes throughout the three-day event.
Who’s going to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding?
Obviously, with Bezos being rich and constantly rubbing shoulders with the rich, a bunch of celebs and people with fat pockets are set to descend on Venice for the big event.
Reuters reports that Zaia said around 90 private jets are set to land at nearby airports over the next couple of days. It also reported that five of the city’s most luxe hotels have been booked out to host 200-250 guests.
In a more cooked turn of events, Page Six reported that guests who’ve previously booked these hotels were “booted” once Bezos rented them for his rich besties. According to the publication, the guest list is set to include Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Barbra Streisand and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Euro summer? More like Euro bummer, amirite?

On top of that hot mess with hotel reservations, it’s also been rumoured that Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have officially split. And since the rumours surfaced, insiders have claimed that the Lord Of The Rings actor will be on the prowl during the three-day event.
As one source told TMZ, Bloom “psyched to let loose” and “may make his debut as a single man during the festivities”.
What are people saying about Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding?
As you can imagine, folks are PISSED.
As mentioned previously, the baddies of Venice are protesting their hearts out over this bloody wedding, with many of them highlighting how the rich are using Venice as their little IRL dollhouse to play wedding and called out the pair for contributing to overtourism — which has been a conversation that’s been had across Europe.
Ahead of the nuptials — which have been rumoured to take place some time this week — Greenpeace Italy and UK advocacy group “Everyone hates Elon [Musk]” joined forces, producing a giant banner that read, “If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax,” alongside an image of a laughing Bezos in Venice’s Piazza San Marco.
Speaking to Reuters, a protester said, “The problem is not the wedding, the problem is the system. We think that one big billionaire can’t rent a city for his pleasure.”
While locals are upset with the shindig, Zaia criticised the demonstrations, spotlighting that the wedding is set to bring in 48 million euros to local businesses.
Ahhh… as they say, money, money, money. Let’s hope those inflatable crocodiles work.
