Everton Women's players voice 'disappointment' after Tottenham postponement

Everton players have voiced their "disappointment" after their Women's Super League clash with Tottenham was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Brian Sorensen's side had already made the trip down to London when it was announced the game would be postponed less than three hours before kick-off on Sunday. A statement from the club said that details for the rearranged fixture would be announced in due course, however the decision sparked frustration among players and fans alike, with many questioning why postponments of this nature are still taking place in the top-flight of the women's game.

Everton midfielder, Izzy Christiansen, was one of those who took to social media to share her frustrations. In a tweet, she said: "“We want women’s football to be elite, visible, with fan bases growing by the week” etc etc…

"Postponing games so late doesn’t bode well for the above… Very disappointed about today… Apologies to our travelling fans, hope you get home safely!"

Fellow Everton star, defender Megan Finnigan, also voiced her opinion on the matter in a tweet that read, "Professional league", alongside a host of angry emojis. Her post was retweeted by a number of other Everton players, including midfielder Gabby George.

Many Everton fans were already en route to the game - a journey that takes an average of four hours if driving from Walton Hall Park.

Tottenham, who train alongside the men's side at Hotspur Way, play most of their home games at League Two Leyton Orient's stadium. Both Spurs and Everton sit level on nine points, with the Blues slipping to seventh place in the table following Aston Villa's win over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The postponement means that Brian Sorensen's side will have had a three week break between last week's defeat to Manchester United and their next game against Manchester City at Walton Hall Park on November 19.
