Everton say they are making ‘every effort’ to make sure their FA Cup third-round tie with Peterborough is not postponed due to icy conditions.
An Arctic blast has gripped much of the country this week, with the North West facing particularly wintery conditions.
But despite the snow and ice on Merseyside, Everton are doing everything they can to ensure the game goes ahead.
The club are holding a meeting with local authorities, which will be held at 1pm GMT on Thursday.
Tonight’s game at Goodison Park is meant to kick off at 19:45, but could be postponed if this afternoon’s meeting concludes it isn’t safe.
Everton Make Every Effort To Stop Peterborough Game Being Postponed
Ahead of the planned safety meeting, Everton posted a statement reassuring fans the game is still on as things stand.
The statement read: “At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to ensure that remains the case.
“We will continue to keep fans updated, and will provide more information following the meeting.”
There was a Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice in place on Merseyside on Thursday morning.
But after a dusting of snow in the region earlier in the day, the current forecast has no further snow expected.
With temperatures hovering around freezing, it is unlikely any snow and ice will melt by tonight.
However, similar concerns were raised before Liverpool hosted Manchester United at the weekend.
That game went ahead with little issues.
But if Everton’s match with Peterborough is postponed, it won’t be the first Toffees match called off this season.
In December, Storm Darragh’s extreme wind and rain forced the Merseyside derby to be rearranged.
If Everton do have another postponed fixture, it could cause them some issues.
With two matches to catch up on, Sean Dyche’s side would be faced with a very busy few weeks.
Fans and players alike will therefore be hoping for good news this afternoon – especially those travelling up from Peterborough.
