Everton saw an injury-time penalty overturned as Manchester United held on to an unlikely draw at Goodison Park.
The Toffees were cruising to a rare victory over United thanks to first-half goals from Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure. Both times United were guilty of hesitation in the penalty area as first Beto fired home from close range after a corner was not cleared and, shortly afterwards, Doucoure jumped above a ball-watching Harry Maguire to head past Andre Onana.
There was little improvement after the break from United and the hosts continued to enjoy the better play, until Ruben Amorim threw on Alejandro Garnacho with around 20 minutes to play. The Argentine was again lively and won the free kick with Bruno Fernandes fired home from the edge of the area.
Minutes later and it was all square, against Garnacho winning the free kick which was floated in and eventually volleyed home by Manuel Ugarte.
Everton thought they had won it at the death when Ashley Young won a penalty in the 93rd minute, but the VAR recommended an on-pitch review and the referee overturned his decision as both teams were forced to settle for honours even.

98min: United are now pushing, Onana out to hoof the ball up field but the ball doesn’t fall to a team-mate.
97min: Well, you’ve seen them given and seen them not.
I think there’s enough contact on Young but he doesn’t half make the most of it.
PENALTY OVERTURNED
14:30 , Alex YoungReferee has another look and OVERTURNS his call.
Hold on, VAR recommending a review.
That was De Ligt with the foul. VAR are checking.

93min: Garnacho goes down in the area and wants a penalty, but it’s not a foul.
He’s done well since coming on. So lively.

84min: United are screaming for a penalty after Zirkzee’s header comes off Branthwaite... but replays prove it just smacks him in the face.
82min: Now Everton are struggling, all the momentum is with United.
81min: Can United go on and win this now?
GOAL!
14:14 , Alex Young80min: Fernandes floats in the free kick, Everton only clear as far as Ugarte on the edge of the area, he takes a touch and volleys a finish past Pickford!
79min: Yellow for Young as Garnacho is fouled.
78min: Maguire just falls to the ground looking for a penalty and... it’s just simply not a foul.
76min: Everton doing well to just manage the game at the moment. There hasn’t been any United onslaught.
Moyes is set to make some changes.
74min: Zirkzee tries to feed Obi into the box, but the youngster gets his touch all wrong.
73min: Right, now what have you got United?
GOAL!
14:06 , Alex Young72min: Fernandes doesn’t just whip it in, he scores!
A stunning free kick halves the deficit and United have a lifeline!
70min: But first, Hojlund and Mazraouri are off, replaced by Yoro and Obi.

62min: Casemiro makes way for Garnacho.
59min: Garnacho is warming up.
55min: United break through Dorgu, but the full-back decides to cut back and find a team-mate rather than fly forward so Everton get back and the chance goes begging.
53min: Young is on for Lindstrom.
52min: Fernandes’ delivery flies straight into Pickford’s arms.
51min: Hojlund wins a corner off Tarkowski. A rare touch for the striker.
50min: Young is being readied as Lindstrom is struggling with a knock.
48min: Branthwaite beats Mazaroui in the air to test Onana.
47min: Everton quickly win the first corner of the second half.
Second half!
13:39 , Alex Young46min: Back underway!
There doesn’t appear to be any new faces as the players reappear for the second half.
Does Amorim call for Garnacho at the break? He has to do something.
It’s been so easy for Everton, with Manchester United barely offered any sort of fight or threat.
Half-time!
13:23 , Alex Young52min: There’s your lot for the first half.
51min: Wow, if Doucoure went down under this challenge from Dorgu, it’s a clear penalty. He doesn’t, stays up and tries to find Beto, who wins a corner.
50min: Fernandes goes down screaming after being fairly and cleanly tackled by Doucoure.
49min: O’Brien booked for a foul on Dorgu. The United full-back is at least making things happen.
48min: No. Zirkzee heads miles over.
47min: United win a corner off Branthwaite. Can they do anything with it?
45min: Six minutes added on at the end of the first half.
44min: United chasing shadows at times. Everton movement is leagues above United’s.
42min: Ugarte has a shot from 25 yards, which harmlessly bounces find.
Miserable.
40min: Another chance for Everton as Garner finds Beto inside the area but the striker can’t quite carve open the space to test Onana.
37min: United yet to test Pickford with a shot on target.
34min: Maguire guilty of ball-watching as Doucoure jumped in to head home.
Amorim is just starting into space.
GOAL!
13:04 , Alex Young33min: United are sinking!
Doucoure heads home from close range after Onana fails to deal with Harrison’s shot.
30min: A late tackle from Garner on Dalot, which looked a bit nasty. Dalot doesn’t complain too much but he had a case to.
28min: Corner comes in, Everton clear.
27min: Lovely move by United as Dorgu and Fernandes combine on the left to send the former scampering into the area and to win a corner.
26min: Everton back on the ball and back on top. United are woeful.
22min: United have won three of the 15 games in which they’ve conceded first in the league this season.
My word, Amorim needs that to be four today.
21min: After a long VAR check, the goal is given! Not sure why that took so long.
Everton fans sing: “You’re going down, you’re going down.”
GOAL!
12:52 , Alex Young20min: It’s that man again!
Beto fires home from close range after United fail to clear a corner. United want an offside but he’s miles on.
18min: Half-hearted shouts for a penalty for Everton as Gana is almost tripped but keeps his balance and the move continues.
17min: Another almost-great pass from Dorgu, again on the left, but the delivery is too close to Pickford with Zirkzee lurking.
15min: Everton’s press has dipped somewhat in the last few minutes. United are seeing more of the ball.
12min: First chance for United as Dorgu gets down the left and drills a cross into the box, but it’s a tad ahead of Hojlund as Pickford clears.
The keeper is complaining about the tackle from Hojlund, but the striker had no option.
10min: United can’t get out at the moment. You’ll be stunned to read that Zirkzee and Hojlund are offering very little in the way of an out ball.
7min: First corner for Everton, but it’s wasted.
Everton on top.
5min: Everton press puts Onana and the United defence under pressure and ends with Beto beating De Ligt to the ball to send a header straight at the keeper.
First shot on target.
4min: Mazrouai and Maguire get in each other’s way to concede a throw in.
It’s been a tame start.
3min: Oof, it is a sore one for Mazraoui, but he’ll be fine to continue.
2min: First half-chance falls to Everton as a free kick from deep is floated in, but Tarkowski can’t get near it. Mazraoui lands awkwardly after challenging for the ball.
Kick-off!
12:31 , Alex Young1min: Here we go!
Here they come.
The teams should be emerging shortly. Not long to go now.
You do start to worry about Amorim should he lose again today. He has shown very little in the three month he has been in the job that he has the tools to turn things around.
Moyes entered Everton in a far worse state and has worked wonders in weeks.
Just over 20 minutes until kick-off and the sun is out on Merseyside.
Ruben Amorim on his Man Utd start
12:05 , Alex Young"If you said to me at the beginning that I would only win four matches in 14, I wouldn't believe you.
“I was expecting hard days, but not like this ... I'm doing everything I know, and we're still losing.”
Manchester United have won their last six on the spin against Everton, across all competitions.
They also won 4-0 at Old Trafford earlier this season.
David Moyes on his Everton start
11:44 , Alex Young“It’s gone much better than expected. When I came in I went, ‘my goodness. I don’t want to be the manager who took Everton down’
“And that's the pressure as a manager. And especially when you've been here for so long and, you know, done other good things over the years, you don't want to waste it.
“But, we're we're not safe yet. We're telling the players that, but I have to say that they've they've done brilliantly. The results have had have been great.”
A tough one for Garnacho
11:34 , Alex YoungGarnacho can feel hard done by to be dropped. Yes, he was guilty of a number of missed chances against Tottenham but was also one of the most lively.
Being dropped when the likes of woeful pair Hojlund and Zirkzee keep getting chances must be a tough pill to swallow.

Everton make one change as Abdoulaye Doucoure returns from suspension and replaces Carlos Alcaraz.
It's also one change for Manchester United as Manuel Ugarte recovers from an illness to start as Alejandro Garnacho drops to the bench.

Chido Obi is again with the United squad.
Team news is in just over five minutes. Doucoure should return for Everton after suspension and Ugarte is expected to return to the United midfield.
David Moyes was sacked as Manchester United manager following a defeat at Goodison Park.
Just saying.
Amorim: Moyes is doing a better job than me
10:47 , Alex YoungRuben Amorim admitted David Moyes is simply "doing a better job" than he is currently as Manchester United's under-fire head coach prepares to take on Sir Alex Ferguson's successor.
Amorim is United's sixth permanent manager since Ferguson retired as a champion in 2013, but he has overseen just four Premier League wins since following Erik ten Hag in November.
Moyes has won as many top-flight matches since returning to Everton in January, with their latest victory seeing them move above the Red Devils ahead of the clubs' final ever meeting at Goodison Park.
Asked why the Merseyside club, now in 14th, enjoyed a new manager bounce unlike 15th-placed United, Amorim said: "Simple thing...David Moyes is doing a better job than me. It's quite simple.
"And then small things like winning one game, winning two games, that belief. The pressure is also not the same.
"I don't know but I think we have to give merit to the players of Everton and especially to the coach of Everton and that's all. We need to do the same."

Score prediction
10:30 , Alex YoungThis is a really intriguing game as one which should bring at least a few goals.
United have looked simply appalling almost every time I've seen them play, but can perhaps count themselves a little unlucky to leave Tottenham empty-handed last time out.
It's another trip today and a final one to Goodison Park, where they have enjoyed plenty of success over the years.
This Everton side are suddenly made of sterner stuff, though, and certainly more so than today's opponents. David Moyes can get one over on his former club today.
Everton to win, 2-1.

Three back for Man Utd
10:23 , Alex YoungManchester United are able to welcome back three players today in a huge boost for manager Ruben Amorim.
United lost 1-0 at Tottenham last time out, leaving them 15th in the Premier League table as a difficult run continues for Amorim.
Losing to former United manager David Moyes would only increase the pressure on Amorim, who has seen the use of his favoured 3-4-3 system criticised.
While injury problems aren’t the only issue for the Old Trafford giants, they surely aren’t helping.
Amad Diallo will not play again this season after suffering an ankle ligament in training, while Kobbie Mainoo is facing an extended period out of action.
However, Christian Eriksen, Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte have all been passed fit after missing the loss to Tottenham.
Everton missing 'nine or 10' players
10:14 , Alex YoungEverton will be boosted by the return of Abdoulaye Doucoure against Manchester United, but David Moyes has revealed he is still without “nine or 10” players.
Doucoure is available again after serving a one-match suspension as a result of his sending off following the final whistle in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool last week.
The midfielder played his part in the last-ever Merseyside derby to be held at Goodison Park descending into chaos after the game had finished.
It was his decision to celebrate Everton’s late equaliser in front of the travelling Liverpool fans that sparked a furious melee as Curtis Jones appeared to take exception and sprinted over to confront him.
Both players were then involved in an angry bust-up that saw them each receive second yellow cards.
Doucoure sat out Everton’s impressive 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last week, but is in contention to return to the starting lineup in a welcome boost for Moyes who, similar to Man United boss Ruben Amorim, is dealing with an injury crisis.
