Everton vs Liverpool prediction and odds: Roberto Firmino tipped to maintain fine form for Reds

Liverpool will be determined to maintain their winning form while Everton will be looking to secure a shock win as they seek their first win in the new Premier League season. Both sides have plenty of issues in the treatment room and after some recruitment in the window, both will want to come out of this Merseyside Derby with all three points.

The Reds are the favourites at 2/5 with Betway but the Toffees are 13/2 to surprise their counterparts while a draw is 4/1. Everton have won just one of their last 23 Premier League meetings with Liverpool which was back under Carlo Ancelotti - after that they have managed 12 draws and 10 defeats in that time.

An underwhelming start to the season has been the point of discussion as well as criticism of Liverpool's recruitment - or lack of - especially in the midfielder which they have compensated with a deadline day singing of Arthur Melo from Juventus on loan. Draws to Fulham and Crystal Palace were far from the ideal start you would expect from Klopp's side then a defeat at Old Trafford before annihilating Bournemouth 9-0 and snatching a late winner against Newcastle United has put the Reds back on the right track somewhat.

They have the biggest number of injuries (eight) in their squad including captain Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota as well as Ibrahima Konate at the back too. Meanwhile, the Toffees equally have injury issues of their own with Andros Townsend, Ben Godfrey, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure just four of a growing list in the treatment room at the moment too.

For Lampard's side, a win here would be a huge boost for them as they search for their first three-point haul of the season. After back-to-back defeats at the start, the Toffees have had three 1-1 draws against Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Leeds United - frustrating when a couple of those matches Lampard's side had the momentum to get all three points.

Players to watch

Liverpool's squad have been tested heavily at the start of the season with a number of key injuries and suspensions. One player who has stepped up is Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian forward has impressed while Darwin Nunez served his suspension so I would be surprised to see the former Benfica striker start this weekend given how Firmino's managed three goals and three assists in his last two outings. He is 6/5 to score anytime.

For the Blues, I am going to go for Everton's new signing Neal Maupay. The Frenchman has very much delivered for former club Brighton & Hove Albion on multiple occasions in big matches and big moments which is exactly what Lampard needs in his squad. I have got a feeling he will certainly impress in front of the The Street End.

H2H

This will be the 239th meeting between the two sides with Liverpool picking up 95 wins, 76 draws and 67 defeats in all competitions while in the league it is the 207th meeting with the Reds picking up 80 wins, 68 draws and 58 losses against their Blue neighbours. In the Premier League, this is the 61st meeting with the Anfield club picking up 26 wins, 24 draws and 10 defeats.
