Everton host Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the new Premier League season this afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp saw his side fight right down to the wire to overcome a stubborn Newcastle outfit at Anfield on Wednesday, while Frank Lampard’s Toffees remain winless in the top-flight this term after three consecutive 1-1 draws.
The old adage suggests the form book goes out of the window on derby day, although that has not often been the case in clashes between Everton and Liverpool in recent years.
Such has been Liverpool’s dominance in the fixture, it looks like a hugely difficult task for Lampard to get his first victory of the 2022/23 campaign in front of a passionate home fanbase at Goodison Park.
