Everton transfer news: Newcastle told Anthony Gordon stance as Chelsea star targeted

Now Everton are confident they have managed to balance their books for the latest financial year to escape penalties for financial mismanagement during last season, they can concentrate on sorting out the coming season.

Many fans assume the sale of Richarlison means there will finally be money to spend on new transfers, after three windows of virtually no activity, but that depends on securing more income over the coming year.

With the club now suggesting there will be no sale, with owner Farhad Moshiri instead looking for a minority investor, that means any transfers will have to be funded by new sponsorship deals…or more outgoings. Mirror Sport has rounded up the latest Everton transfer news and rumours.

Toon target Gordon

According to the Daily Mail Newcastle, fuelled by oil money and a desire from Saudi Arabia to use the magic sparkle of sport to enhance the regime’s image, have engaged in talks over Anthony Gordon. The England U21 star made a huge impact under Frank Lampard in the second half of last season, and was the subject of some concerted interest from Spurs, who wanted him in a package alongside Richarlison. Everton turned down that deal, even though the youngster was apparently valued at in excess of £30m by the London club.

But now the Mail say the Magpies want to pick up a bit of sparkle. The paper claims conversations with Goodison bosses have taken place over a proposed transfer, and with the Blues needing more cash injections this season a big money deal would make some sense. But reports suggest Everton have so far resisted all and any offers, and claim that there is an acceptance no deal is likely to happen this summer…with the emphasis on a future move instead.

Blues looking at another Chelsea star.

According to the Liverpool Echo Lampard keeps casting an eye on his former club, and for good reason. While he was manager there, he blooded several youngsters, and knows the promise of their emerging players. The latest link is with Armando Broja who had successful loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Southampton, and the paper claims he is set for showdown talks over his future.

Broja will sit down for talks with Thomas Tuchel..and Everton are lurking to exploit any suggestion he could leave. It would make sense in the club’s current financial position to cut a deal which takes the 6ft 3in forward on loan, with a potential purchase at the end of it for the 20 year old, who has been at Chelsea for 12 years. Newcastle are also said to be interested which makes any pursuit difficult, in truth, given the spending power of their rivals.

Big Dunc replacement?

The Blues won’t look to replace one of Goodison’s biggest heroes. No, not Richarlison - though that will depend on finances, and whether they can get Jesse Lingard on a free transfer - but an even bigger icon. Duncan Ferguson has departed, ostensibly in search of a management role of his own, though there are those who enjoy rumours who suggest the departure could be political. And fuel was added to that gossip by the fact that Everton have hinted to the media that they do not currently have any plans to replace the club legend.

Boss Frank Lampard is happy with the coaching team he brought to the club, and doesn’t feel the need to find another assistant manager, the position Ferguson occupied. His exit was confirmed on Monday, but the big man himself suggested there were not hard feelings about leaving, stating Lampard had wanted him to stay, and adding: "He’s a great man and a great young manager, I’m sure he’ll do very well for Everton."
