Anthony Gordon will be suspended for Everton’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday after being booked in the 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday night. The 21-year-old was cautioned in the 63rd minute for a challenge from behind on Bruno Fernandes, catching the Portuguese international with his follow-through, before being withdrawn by Frank Lampard four minutes later as Dwight McNeil entered the fray.
It was Gordon’s fifth yellow card of the season after also going into the book against Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Leeds United and West Ham United and ensures he will now serve a one-match ban as the Blues go to north London. He has featured in all nine of Everton’s Premier League matches to date this season, starting eight and coming off the bench at Southampton after suffering illness ahead of the visit to St Mary’s while also scoring two goals at Brentford and Leeds United.

Gordon was subject to transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur early in this summer’s window and Antonio Conte’s side are understood to have discussed the possibility of a double deal with Richarlison but Goodison chiefs did not want to entertain such offers. Everton’s home-grown hero was also linked with a potential move to Newcastle United before Chelsea made a strong pursuit for his signature in the days before the deadline.
