Everton set for system change as new signing absent from lineup against Leeds

Frank Lampard has moved to four at the back for the first time this season.

After Mason Holgate became the third centre back to suffer an injury in the opening four games of the Premier League campaign, the Blues boss has moved away from five at the back for the trip to Leeds United. Instead, Conor Coady and James Tarkowski are paired together in front of Jordan Pickford, with Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko at full-back.

Tom Davies comes into the starting line-up in the centre of midfield alongside Amadou Onana and Alex Iwobi, with the same front three as that which started at Brentford - Demarai Gray, Anthony Gordon and Dwight McNeil - rounding off the starting XI as Lampard looks set to adopt a 4-3-3 formation.

Neal Maupay - who Lampard said he expected to be in the squad tonight following his arrival on Merseyside on Friday - is not part of the matchday squad.

Andre Gomes, who has been absent since suffering an injury during the pre-season tour of the US, is on the bench along with academy starlets Reece Welch and Stanley Mills. Lewis Warrington has been selected for the Under-21s in their Papa John's Trophy tie at Morecambe and so has not made the trip to Elland Road.
