Everton sent Gareth Bale 'gamble' message after Real Madrid exit

Harry Redknapp believes a club like Everton should go after Gareth Bale this summer, insisting he is 'worth the gamble'.

The Wales captain will leave Real Madrid this month when his contract expires after nine years at the Bernabeu. And former West Ham United, Portsmouth and Southampton boss Redknapp reckons his nephew, Everton manager Frank Lampard, should take a chance on the 32-year-old and bring him to Goodison Park.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Redknapp said: “I would take a gamble with him if I was in the Premier League. I think when he went to Tottenham, he didn’t really get the chance to play. He didn’t get a run. It seemed as though it wasn’t Jose’s (Mourinho) choice (to sign him). If I was an Everton or Leeds. Good clubs. That take gambles. I would take a little gamble on him.

“The wages are a problem. But if he wants to play, then he’s not going to get £600k-a-week anymore. Those days are finished. He has had that. He doesn’t need it. I still think he can do it at the top level for another year.”

Bale fell out of favour with Los Blancos in the latter half of his Madrid career but that didn't stop him from collecting five Champions League winners medals and three La Liga titles. The Welshman is currently riding the crest of a wave after helping his country Wales to nudge past Ukraine in the World Cup 2022 play-off qualifier in Cardiff last Sunday.

After successful stints with Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, where he played under Redknapp, Bale moved to Madrid for a then world record transfer fee of £85.1million.
