Everton’s attempt to cut short Armando Broja’s loan has hit complications with Chelsea wanting compensation to take the striker back.

David Moyes, the new Everton manager, confirmed his club were exploring the possibility of terminating Broja’s season-long loan after he was ruled out for 10 to 12 weeks with ankle ligament damage.

Everton have used their full allocation of four loan signings this season and, with profitability and sustainability rules restricting their January budget, want to create space for another temporary transfer before the window closes on 3 February.

The 23-year-old signed for Everton last summer while sidelined with an achilles injury that had scuppered a proposed move to Ipswich. It is understood Chelsea agreed to cover the Albania international’s wages while he was out with the achilles problem.

The Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has confirmed his exit from the club in a goodbye message posted on social media on Thursday.

Kvaratskhelia [pictured] is set to join the French champions,Paris Saint-Germain, with Napoli coach Antonio Conte revealing on Saturday that the Georgian international had asked to leave the Serie A club immediately, despite his contract with the club running until 2027.

'It's hard for me, but it's time to say goodbye,' Kvaratskhelia said in a video posted on Instagram. ;I spent an amazing time here, we shared a lot of memories together, experienced a lot of amazing emotions. Naples was my home, where I felt wonderful thanks to each of you.'

Kvaratskhelia signed for Napoli in 2022 and was named Serie A's player of the season in the 2022-23 campaign. His 12 goals and 13 assists helped the club win their first Scudetto in 33 years, earning him the nickname 'Kvaradona'. Reuters

Broja made his first appearance for Everton as a substitute in the 4-0 win over Wolves on 4 December. He started twice before, on his sixth outing, sustaining the ankle injury in the FA Cup third-round defeat of Peterborough. Because that is unrelated to the achilles problem, Chelsea want Everton to pay the remaining cost of the loan before terminating the deal.

Everton, who were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa in Moyes’s first game back at the helm on Wednesday, have been offered the opportunity to sign the former Chelsea, Arsenal and Fulham midfielder Willian. The 36-year-old is a free agent after mutually terminating a season-long contract with Olympiakos last month and is keen on a return to the Premier League. Willian’s time in Greece was beset by injury problems and Everton have not decided whether to take up the offer, which has been made by agents representing the former Brazil international.
