Everton reimburse supporters for Vitalii Mykolenko and Ukraine banner

Everton have reimbursed the money fans spent making a banner to show their support for Vitalii Mykolenko and Ukraine.

The Blues have made the gesture after supporters joined forces to create the banner following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this week.

After weeks of speculation, Russian president Vladimir Putin confirmed the start of military action in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Air raid sirens have since been heard going off in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv after Putin launched what he called a 'special military operation', which has seen a large-scale invasion of the country and backlash from across the international community.

Everton face Manchester City at Goodison Park this evening, and the plan, it is believed, is to unveil the banner ahead of kick-off.

“@Everton have reimbursed the money for the banner! If anyone would like their donation back please let us know or alternatively we will put the money towards the next banner," a tweet from the 27yearscampaign account read.

“Thank you so much to everyone involved with getting this banner made! #WeStandWithUkraine.”

Speaking on Friday afternoon, Blues boss Frank Lampard reiterated that everyone at the club will be able to offer Mykolenko suppor t in any way he feels that he needs it.

He said: "I don't think it'd be right for me to talk about his personal family, it's his position to say that. As a club we're there to support him in any way we can. He needs to know we're here in any way.

"How he feels personally, how we can help with his family. I certainly can only control what's in front of me and the rest of the squad with how supported he feels every day.

"That's all we can do at this point. He's been good, he's been training well. His training is a mini escape in terms of what's going on in his head and it can be there for that, in tough moments it can sometimes help a young lad.

"I know there are many other people in as tough, if not tougher, positions - but yeah he's been fine."
