Everton player ratings for 2021/22 season tell intriguing story as hero emerges late on

No fewer than 36 players turned out for Everton during their 44 Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches throughout the 2021/22 season but just how did they all fare over the campaign in the ECHO’s player ratings? Whether it was Adam Jones, Chris Beesley, Connor O’Neill or Sam Carroll, the ECHO had a reporter at all of the Blues fixtures, marking each player out of 10 for their display and after extensive calculations, totting up all their scores, the final results make illuminating reading as always.

Despite the troubled nature of the season as Everton battled to avoid relegation from the Premier League, only confirming their top flight status with a dramatic 3-2 comeback triumph over Crystal Palace in their final home game, there were three perfect 10s dished out by our writers over the campaign. Dominic Calvert-Lewin earned one after he proved the saviour against the Eagles with his diving header in front of the Gwladys Street in the aforementioned fixture as did Jordan Pickford for his incredible saves to deny Chelsea in the 1-0 victory earlier that month plus Alex Iwobi for his last-gasp winner against Newcastle United that came nine minutes into stoppage time.

In contrast, Salomon Rondon was given a mark of just 1 for getting sent off just four minutes after his late arrival as a substitute in the 3-2 home loss to Brentford when Frank Lampard’s side wasted an earlier opportunity to confirm their survival. Here’s a full rundown, in reverse order of average ratings, of all the players to turn out for Everton throughout 2021/22 with some not having played enough minutes to be awarded a mark.

Among the regulars in the side, overall there was very little to choose between Everton’s three standout performers with Richarlison top of the pile on 6.52 a mere hundredth of a point ahead of Pickford on 6.51 while Anthony Gordon was another fiftieth of a point back on 6.49, demonstrating the trio’s contribution in what was a testing campaign.

It was also telling that out of those who played more than just a single game, Fabian Delph scored the highest average mark of 6.64 after some strong late season form - but with injury problems persisting for the midfielder whose current contract is due to expire at the end of this month, he was only on the pitch for a quarter of the Blues’ matches.
