Everton player ratings as one awful and three more poor in Bournemouth hammering

Asmir Begovic 6

Named as captain against his previous club, he could do nothing about the heavily-deflected opener that dropped into his net off the crossbar, was unfortunate over the second which fell to Stanislas at the back post for a tap-in and then saved from Lowe for the third only for it to drop straight to substitute Emiliano Marcondes.

Nathan Patterson 7

Was cruel that Everton’s most-impressive performer was at fault for the fourth goal, being dispossessed by Siriki Dembele as he was full of energy and enterprise and at the heart of most of their best moves and could be one of the few from this line-up to be starting again here on Saturday.

Ruben Vinagre 5

Handed just his second start – both have been in this competition – the on-loan left wing back started promisingly and delivered some decent crosses bug was part of a back line that looked like strangers which is probably no surprise given their lack of game time together.

Mason Holgate 3

Playing on the left of a back three he was given the hook just moments after his embarrassing slip allowed Bournemouth to double their advantage as he tumbled to the turf when receiving a routine pass from Asmir Begovic and allowed Ryan Christie to start the move for Junior Stanislaus’ goal.

Michael Keane 4

Operating on the right of Everton’s centre-back trio he was too slow off the mark when up against Junior Stanislas when chasing the ball in the build-up to the first goal and also gave the ball away cheaply on several occasions.

Yerry Mina 5

Playing for the first time since he went off injured in Everton’s opening game of the season, the Colombian looked to lack mobility and was understandably rusty.

James Garner 5

Disappointing to see his evening end so early after a long-awaited first start, he was unfortunate to see his attempted closing down of Jamal Lowe’s shot ricochet off the crossbar and beyond Asmir Begovic for the opening goal and brought the best out of Mark Travers shortly afterwards with a dipping effort from outside the area that was tipped over the bar.

Tom Davies 4

Squandered a huge opportunity to equalise, shortly after Bournemouth had gone ahead when he fired over the bar after being picked out in the area by Abdoulaye Doucoure and was subsequently part of a midfield that ended up getting completely overran.

Abdoulaye Doucoure 5

Picked a couple of good passes in the early stages, including the one that set up Davies and was a willing runner but fell away after the break.

Anthony Gordon 4

Playing as a left-sided support striker behind Neal Maupay, his only effort on target of note was to catch Jordan Zemura with a rash challenge that earned him a booking just before the break after earlier firing wide when played through by Nathan Patterson and heading over the bar from close range following a Yerry Mina flick-on.

Neal Maupay 5

Neat assist to pick out Demarai Gray with a pass for his goal but it was an otherwise frustrating night for the striker who is likely to be expected to lead the line here again on Saturday.

Dwight McNeil (on 51 for Holgate) 5

Unable to make much of an impact after entering the fray in a triple substitution.

Demarai Gray (on 51 for Gordon) 7

Smart finish with a curling shot from the edge of the area briefly gave Everton some hope.

Alex Iwobi (on 51 for Garner) 6

The first time so far this season he hasn’t started oh how the Blues missed his endeavour.

Stanley Mills (on 81 for Doucoure)

Another late run-out for the teenager in this competition.

Tom Cannon (on 81 for Maupay)

On for his senior debut on what was otherwise a night to forget.
