Everton player ratings as Demarai Gray decent but three very poor in heavy Arsenal defeat

Asmir Begovic - 5

Made a very good save midway through the first half with the scores still at 0-0. However, he may think he could have done better with Gabriel's effort to give Arsenal their fourth. A difficult afternoon for the keeper in the end.

Alex Iwobi - 5

Gave away the penalty, which he can have no real complaints about, although Everton fans might have something to say after the Rodri incident earlier in the season. Aside from that, Iwobi's attacking ability was severely restricted on this occasion, which was a shame.

Mason Holgate - 6

He was certainly kept busy throughout this 90 minutes, swapping over to the opposite side of the defensive three. He actually made some very important blocks and challenges inside the box to stop the scoreline being heavier in fairness to him.

YOUR SHOUT: Rate the Everton players after their 5-1 loss at Arsenal

Michael Keane - 5

Arsenal dominated possession throughout but they didn't actually directly beat Michael Keane in too many battles. The centre-back will certainly be disappointed to have conceded five at the heart of defence, however.

Jarrad Branthwaite - 4

Clearly had a nervous beginning to the match but throughout the rest of the first half he managed to find his feet. However, in the second half Arsenal did target his side of the defence somewhat and the youngster was shown a bit of a learning curve.

Jonjoe Kenny - 4

Was given something of a rough time in the first half, particularly, but you have to point out that he was out of position on the left flank. That might well have been his last performance for the club.

Tom Davies - 4

Arsenal dominated the ball in the centre of the pitch and that was always going to be difficult for Davies as he made his return from a long-term injury. Try as he did, he just couldn't progress Everton up the pitch.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 5

It was maybe a bit surprising Doucoure started the match after his efforts on Thursday. He was replaced by Donny van de Beek midway through the first half and that inspired Everton's best spell of the match.

Demarai Gray - 6

He always looked lively on the rare occasions Everton managed to burst forward, with a couple of efforts on goal in the first half that he may feel he could have done better with.

Dele - 5

A few nice flicks and touches here and there, but he wasn't really allowed enough possession to show the kind of performance that he displayed from the bench against Crystal Palace. With a pre-season under his belt, you hope the story will be different next season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 6

Hardly managed to get any touches of the ball as Arsenal dominated but he was brilliant in the build-up to the goal. The second half saw more half chances fall his way but he couldn't capitalise.

SUBS

Donny van de Beek - 6

Came on the pitch in the first half, and hardly touched the ball before the interval, then scored Everton's only goal of the match. Not a bad performance in what could have been his last for the Blues.

Anthony Gordon - 6

Looked bright in the small flashes he had.

Isaac Price - 6

Broke forward on a number of occasions in his few minutes.
