If Anthony Gordon does leave the football club then we’ve got to be strong and make sure it’s on our terms. The money has to be right and a replacement has to be lined up because so many times in the past we’ve sold our best players for big money and the whole world knows we’ve got a pot of gold and we’re overcharged for a replacement who could end up being a panic buy, we’ve got to learn from these mistakes.
There’s no smoke without fire and Chelsea have a new owner now who seems to be trying to bring anyone and everyone to the football club. Gordon might not be their only target in that position and they’re looking for reinforcements after letting Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner go.
To get to this stage, it seems that it’s all been agreed though, Chelsea might have offered personal terms and they aren’t a problem and it’s down to the two clubs to thrash out a price. If they don’t though, I’m sure Anthony will keep his head down and show his willingness to do as well as I can, I don’t think he’ll be one of those players who sulk.

Like Alex Iwobi, who has turned his fortunes around at Everton, I think Anthony feeds off the fans. You can’t have a go for someone attempting this but maybe he was trying too hard against Forest as he was getting into good situations but was lacking that bit of composure to find the net with Frank Lampard putting the pressure on him to produce more goals and assists.
My gut feeling, given the amount of stuff we’re hearing, is that a deal will probably happen but while I’d be sad to see Anthony go, if it does come to that then it would be nice for a change for Evertonians to be able to feel some pride over that. When I was at PSV, they had a list of world-class stars like Ronaldo and Romario who had come through their system and while it’s difficult when they go to a rival in the same division the deal could work for Everton if they’re able to reinvest the money wisely.
Let’s not be lazy on the recruitment side like we have been in the past, just going for players from Barcelona, just thinking ‘well they’ll fit’, we’ve got to be a bit cuter and more clever than that and understand the Premier League and whether they’ll fit into Frank's system and the demands of Everton fans.
