Everton loanee Lewis Dobbin gets glowing endorsement after perfect response to Liverpool agony

Everton youngster Lewis Dobbin has been hailed for his bravery after bouncing back from his penalty miss at Anfield with a spectacular goal for Derby County. Dobbin, 19, was the last of third of three Rams players to see his effort saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher before Harvey Elliott slotted home the winner in their Carabao Cup tie last Wednesday.

However, six days on he recovered from that disappointment by smashing in a volley from outside the area for Derby’s fourth goal in their 5-0 FA Cup first round replay victory over National League Torquay United at Pride Park. Stoke-on-Trent-born Dobbin, who made five first team appearances for Everton last season, joined the League One side on a season long loan on August 3.

Rather than spearheading the attack, Dobbin has been playing as a support striker or winger for the East Midlanders and the goal against Torquay doubled his tally to two in 23 games so far this term having previously netted in the Papa John’s Trophy against Mansfield Town – Everton Under-21s next opponents in the competition at Goodison Park on Wednesday, November 30 (7pm). Derby County head coach Paul Warne was in good spirits when describing the wonder-strike and told RamsTV : “I didn’t see it! No I did, that’s a lie.

“It was a great goal. Dobbs would play for his work rate alone, he’s a really popular member of the dressing room, they were buzzing for him.

“He had a couple of chances early on, and sometimes when you have them you might not believe in yourself but he does and the fact he took the shot on is brave because it could hit the gaffer’s car in the car park but it didn’t, it went top corner and the where the fans were.

“It was just an amazing goal, I’m really pleased for him and obviously his family and friends might have seen it on T.V. so great, it just builds confidence, togetherness, they win again and it’s been a while – without tempting fate but I’m going to say it – since they smelt defeat, I don’t count Liverpool as defeat, the was only Ipswich and that was from an unforced error.”
