Jarrad Branthwaite made his debut for PSV Eindhoven last night in a dramatic Champions League qualifying win.
The Everton loanee came on as an extra-time substitute as the Dutch outfit beat Monaco 4-3 on aggregate to progress to the next round, where they will take on Rangers. The clash at the Philips Stadion was Branthwaite’s first time in the first-team squad, following a handful of run-outs in the reserve side.
Eindhoven, managed by former Manchester United and Netherlands striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, went into the second-leg level with Monaco at 1-1, but needed an 89th-minute equaliser on the night to level the aggregate score at 3-3. And with the removal of the away goals rule last season, the match went to extra-time.

Branthwaite came on in the 107th-minute and just two minutes later, Luuk De Jong scored PSV’s eventual winner, setting up a tie with Scottish outfit Rangers after they beat Union Saint Galloise.
The Toffees defender moved to the Netherlands for the upcoming season in a bid to pick up regular senior minutes. Having made just 13 first-team appearances since arriving in 2020, the centre-back is now plying his trade with a side who finished second in Eredivisie last term.
Blues boss Frank Lampard deemed the former Carlisle United man surplus to requirements in a short term sense this year on Merseyside, opting instead to bring in new reinforcements at the back. James Tarkowski joined on a free transfer from Burnley at the start of the summer, and he was followed by fellow England international and ex-Wolves man Conor Coady this week.
PSV’s clash with Rangers in the next round of Champions League qualifying will take place on August 16/17 in Glasgow and 23/24 in Eindhoven.
