Everton lineups as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Demarai Gray decisions made for Man City

Adam Jones - Vitalii Mykolenko starts

There's a few really interesting decisions facing Frank Lampard for this game.

One of those, as he quite rightly said himself on Friday, will actually lie with Vitalii Mykolenko himself.

If the left-back feels in the right frame of mind to play in this game, then he should be brought back into the fold. Everton need players in their natural positions more than ever in a match like this.

Further up the field another choice faces the manager in terms of whether to push Abdoulaye Doucoure straight into the starting line-up - and I'd be tempted to.

He brings a lot that Everton have been missing in that area of the pitch both going forward and defensively - and putting him into a three-man set up in the centre of the park always seems to benefit the side.

Up front, fitness permitting, Dominic Calvert-Lewin should be the man through the middle flanked by Richarlison and Anthony Gordon.

Demarai Gray is of course available again for this match, but those three should provide enough attacking intent to mean the winger isn't risked on his return from injury.

My team (4-3-3): Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Holgate, Mykolenko; Allan, Van de Beek, Doucoure; Gordon, Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison

Chris Beesley - Dominic Calvert-Lewin continues

Frank Lampard admits that he faces a dilemma over whether to start returnees Abdoulaye Doucoure and Demarai Gray for Everton against Manchester City and while I'd ideally like the Blues get as many of their best players out there against the reigning Premier League champions and leaders, realistically I think it could be a case of going with one of the pair.

Everton could really do with an extra man in the middle against Pep Guardiola's side as they look to prevent what would be their 10th consecutive loss in this fixture but given Doucoure's niggles of late, I'd be tempted to hang fire and give him a potentially less-intense run-out against non-leaguers Boreham Wood in the FA Cup to build up sharpness ahead of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Gray on the other hand, had originally been earmarked for a potential return at Southampton last weekend so, I'd go with him on the wing at the expense of Alex Iwobi who struggled at St Mary's.

It would be a powerful gesture in the current climate to see Vitalii Mykolenko to return at left-back to line-up against his fellow Ukrainian international Oleksandr Zinchenko but only the player himself and Lampard will know whether he's in the correct state of mind to feature in this one and take the place of Jonjoe Kenny who has been operating out of his natural position.

My team (4-4-2): Pickford; Coleman, Kenny, Holgate, Keane; Allan, Van de Beek, Gordon, Gray; Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin

Sam Carroll - Abdoulaye Doucoure starts

Abdoulaye Doucoure makes an instant return for Everton. Frank Lampard cannot bring his energy back into the fold quick enough.

Allan drops to the bench in the hope Doucoure and Donny van de Beek can do the leg-work in what is sure to be a gruelling test for the hosts.

Vitalii Mykolenko should also start if he feels ready.

Richarlison leads the line alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin but the Brazilian can drop into midfield to help Doucoure and Van De Beek without possession.

My team (4-4-2) : Pickford; Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Mykolenko; Gordon, Doucoure, Van de Beek, Gray; Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin
