Everton legend sends blunt message to Farhad Moshiri as club 'divide' emerges

Kevin Campbell has lamented the statement from Everton owner Farhad Moshiri amid the Blues struggles in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard's side sit inside the bottom three and Southampton, who sit at the foot of the table, on Saturday in a showdown that could see Nathan Jones' side move level on points with a win.

On Wednesday, the Everton owner released an open-letter amid the growing pressure from fans after the woes mounted in their sobering 4-1 defeat to Brighton last week.

Campbell made 137 appearances for the Blues over six years and had an impassioned rant on the current situation at Goodison Park.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former striker said: "I just want to mention a statement that the owner, Farhad Moshiri, said in June of last year, he said: 'Mistakes have been made and for that I want to apologise to all of you, we have to work and do better, you have given us incredible support and we must repay the support and show that lessons have been learnt.'

"So here we are in 2023 and there's another statement come out, where has the backing been? Support for the manager who kept the club up. Frank Lampard inherited this issue, he comes in the club - I've got to give Frank Lampard some credit, he doesn't hide from the tough questions, he's there, he's vocal and accepts the club are in a difficult situation.

"I don't see that from some people above. Everton fans have the right now, they've supported the club incredibly, especially last season they were incredible. They've had enough, they want to hear action, they don't want to hear words, they want action and as far as I'm concerned, they're well within their rights to demand change to what's going on.

"I remember Marcel Brands was brought in as this mastermind to bring quality young players, network over Europe. Everton have spent over £500m, where are all these youngsters? There's no foundations at the club and fans have rightly said we're not taking it anymore and this is where the divide is.

"I'm not saying he's been fully backed because he's been able to shore up that defence at times, shore up that midfield. But as you and I know, in the Premier League you need firepower and Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been out for long stretches. They sold Richarlison, he's not been replaced, Maupay's come in, he's a squad player, he can do a job but Everton need more firepower, more goals, they don't have that so they have to go in the market. Frank Lampard's been managing with one hand behind his back."
