Everton kit supplier hummel take stand against Qatar hosting World Cup with Denmark kit designs

Everton kit supplier hummel have taken a stand against Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup with their design for the shirts Denmark will wear at the tournament.

This is the third season the Blues have been with the sportswear brand, who have been a popular choice with supporters after producing strong designs for the club's strips. The Danish company also provide kits for their national team - and have done so for this winter's World Cup.

The tournament has proven controversial for a number of reasons, and the company took to social media on Wednesday to share their viewpoint on the human rights record of the host nation.

The first post on Instagram, revealing the all-red home kit, read: "With the Danish national team’s new jerseys, we wanted to send a dual message. They are not only inspired by Euro 92, paying tribute to Denmark’s greatest football success, but also a protest against Qatar and its human rights record.

"That’s why we’ve toned down all the details for Denmark’s new World Cup jerseys, including our logo and iconic chevrons. We don’t wish to be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives.

"We support the Danish national team all the way, but that isn’t the same as supporting Qatar as a host nation. We believe that sport should bring people together. And when it doesn’t, we want to make a statement."

A second post followed shortly afterward depicting the "third" shirt that Denmark will take with them to the World Cup, which begins in November. The caption from hummel continued to highlight Qatar's human rights record and treatment of migrant workers who have built stadiums for the tournament.

They continued: "Black. The colour of mourning. The perfect colour for Denmark's third shirt for this year’s World Cup.

"While we support the Danish national team all the way, this shouldn’t be confused with support for a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives. We wish to make a statement about Qatar’s human rights record and its treatment of the migrant workers that have built the country’s World Cup stadiums."

Denmark begin their World Cup campaign against Tunisia on November 22, and will also take on France and Australia in the group stage of the tournament.
