Everton handed huge injury boost as James Garner details Frank Lampard influence

Here are your Everton FC headlines for Tuesday, October 18.

Everton handed injury boost ahead of Newcastle

Frank Lampard has revealed that Mason Holgate will be available and in the squad for tomorrow's game against Newcastle United.

The Toffees travel to Tyneside in a bid to end a two-match losing streak, having lost against Tottenham and Manchester United over the last fortnight. A win at St James' Park can lift Lampard's side into the top-half for the first time this season and put them within two points of their hosts.

And speaking to the press before the squad go north, Lampard has revealed he will once agin be able to call on holgate - although e admitted fellow defenders Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey remain sidelined.

The Everton manager said: "Yerry had a small issue in his rehab, so he won't be (involved). Mason is in the squad, so progressing with that. Ben Godfrey is also on the training pitch, small (steps), but great to see. Early stages."

Lampard was also asked about the fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the Blues boss urged patience in easing the striker back into play: "We've got to be careful with Dominic, making sure we gradually bring him in but as quickly as possible. It's a fine balance that one. But he's getting to the stage. We've got two games in three days coming up so hopefully we can get more minutes out of him."

Jame Garner details Lampard influence

Everton midfielder James Garner has talked up the influence Frank Lampard is having on him following his summer switch from Manchester United.

Garner has so far made just two substitute appearances for the Toffees. With fellow new signings Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye having enjoyed strong starts, the former United man has struggled to nail down a spot in the starting XI.

But he is clearly well thought of by Blues boss Lampard. And the feeling is clearly mutual, with Garner revealing the key pieces of advice given to him by Lampard. “He’s asked me to get on the ball, shoot, cross and just try to create as much I can,'' Garner told official club media.

“He’s also, of course, asked me to stick to the game plan, which is the most important thing. We’re a team. To be working every day with a guy like the manager… it’s top.

“He has helped me and I’m hoping to learn some more from his knowledge and his words of wisdom. He’s been there and done it. He’s played at the highest level and he still is, so he can help me massively.”
