Everton handed boost in Leeds United relegation scrap as Richarlison 'set to avoid ban'

Everton appear to have received a boost in their battle against Leeds United and Burnley to avoid the drop after reports suggested that Richarlison will not receive a ban this season following the incident which saw him celebrate with and then throw a flare following his winning goal against Chelsea.

The FA have reportedly 'paused' their investigation into the incident after Merseyside police are said to have asked for Everton's observations following the incident, deciding that any police involvement should be concluded before they look any further into the incident.

It had been mooted that the Brazilian could possibly face a three-game ban for endangering the fans, which would have been a significant blow for Frank Lampard, with Richarlison the Toffees' leading goalscorer this season. It now appears that this will not be the case.

The incident occurred following Richarlison's match-winning goal. The Brazilian pressed Cesar Azpilicueta and capitalised on an error from the Chelsea captain, before going on to beat Edouard Mendy to give Frank Lampard's Everton what could be a vital three points in the relegation battle.

Jesse Marsch and Leeds are still two points ahead of Everton, although the Toffees have a game in hand and an easier set of fixtures than the Whites. They will be relieved to have Richarlison available for those, particularly given the continued absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
